@Vii: Pretty much. But then again, I've seen people do a complete 180 on everything once they understand it. I've seen an extreme homophobe go to full on supporter because his son came out to him and he saw the oppression and bullying his son got. It was pretty awesome!
@AelloTyphoeus: That is really nice to hear! .. see! Read! xD There are too many sad stories out there about kids who were kicked out or treated like animals by their family after they came out. :c Makes me thankful I never had to go through anything like that.
@Vii: Yeah. He actually went on to start the PFLAG group in our county so that people didn't have to drive 30 minutes or more to have support. Like it was a full 180. He used to Hate, and I mean that with a capital H, anyone that was gay or even just seemed gay. Everyone was astounded when my friend had the guts to come out to him and his reaction.
@AelloTyphoeus: I can imagine how stunned everyone was! Honestly the kid was probably scared to death, I know I would be. I'd have probably packed my bags and called a friend ahead of time just in case. c': It's really good that he totally changed his views, though, and went on to make sure others could feel safe.
@Vii: The friend had actually been in contact with a few older gay guys who basically became is drag moms...they had offered to take him in if need be.
@AelloTyphoeus: Omg 'drag moms' xD I hate to laugh but that's such a hilarious and adorable idea. I'm glad he had a safety net, and has experienced people whom he can trust and learn from!
@Vii: I mean that's what they wanted to be called. His drag moms. It also helped that they both were stunning drag queens (how he actually met them) and so it worked. They're the sweetest people ever!
@AelloTyphoeus: Drag queens are often some of the most wonderful people with an amazing sense of humour. I actually have a friend who came out during out senior year (I was surprised, but not shocked), and a couple years ago started moonlighting as a drag queen. It helps that there is a pretty strong LGBTQ and alternative community here in Tucson.
