Event thread do speed by more than normal ones.
You can definitely see a difference when there's an event going on.
It's like that on any site though, really.

so if we go at the pace of 50p a day we might be able to do it but it's tapering off very soon hah
It's also early on in the event. People might need a bit more time to realize that it's going on.
Who knows how many others might join in and shoot up the page count.
Vice versa, who knows how many people might taper off.
