That sounds incredibly promising and fun and definitely a serious conflict for the main character. Are they going to go willingly with the aliens to *help* the next invasion, or to find a way to upend the status quo, I wonder. Either way has an interesting take and really depends on the world ya build.

@sunny: I've been working on a novel for a couple years now. Its sort of "What if 'The Matrix' but the normal people knew the Agents and Rebels were outsiders using their world for fun and the natives were completely helpless, couldn't be 'unplugged', or break the fourth wall or else they get turned into an Agent of the system" told from the POV of one of the natives that gets drawn into the being friends with a group of these outsiders.

I keep redrafting it, and probably oughta shelve it, but I like the story a lot and don't have anything really decisive I'd rather do instead.

How about you, what else are you writing? Aside from humans adopting endangered bigfoots?

@sunny: Spec fic is my game too, mostly existential-themed sci-fi or fantasy. Some fanfic in there as well. I've got a few short form stories here and there, but they just feel like snippets from a book, as I've been told, ha. I do love reading short stories, just can't make em well.

A good horror short story is great! I am so bad about making short stories actually work. I have trouble letting the story remain contained and focused, so much respect to you for managing it.

Is horror your typical writing fare? Or are you trying to stretch your wings, so to speak?

Happy Birthday! My complete and total empathy. I think I'm going to vote against pandemic in the future if the choice is presented to me. WI in particular has had a not-positive slew of pandemic related legislation and judiciary choices, so you have my complete sympathies. I live in OK, and I've seen so many people without masks its not fun.

What have you been up to? Any good media or hobbies you've been tracking to in order to stay above water?

My condolences on the need for a visit to the hospital, but at least its something managable and not uncommon. Congratulations on your joy coming however and of course best wishes along the way!

You have more just my little admiration for your pain tolerance. I like to think I am pretty good about being tolerant, but I have limits. I hope things turn out as well as your dream had!

I'm listening to the Podquisition Podcast, where I learn where my games are either great or perfect.

@lilmisskushy: Oh my best wishes for you and your family. I think there is a special sainthood that should be given to anyone with kids in these trying times.

I've mostly been just going back and enjoying old movies and games for nostalgia purposes. I am already tired of the amount of commercials using the already old "In these uncertain times" (>_<) so I've been avoiding newer stuff that I don't own, to avoid it.

What sort of things have you been doing in the past month or so? Hope you've been safe as well. I am still stunned by how much the world has changed.

I have ecclectic tastes, but I'll throw in a few suggestions for ya:

Lemon Demon does good electronica-pop stuff usually with a weird theme or non-sensical topic. Check out "As your Father I expressly forbid it" or "No Eyed Girl" for a flavor of it.

Ottiki and Charlotte is a duo that does some really banging techno music that sounds like it belongs to a sort of intense bullet-hell games, but that don't exist.

I like the punk band Strange Lips as well, but the music is pretty topically about being trans and queer, but they are a small band that definitely could use the support in these weird times.

@dipper: You have my sympathies. I can imagine how frustrating it would be to lose a lot of progress due to the browser resetting. I have been impressed at how well the site retains text for a post if I accidentally navigate away from a page I am typing in, but browser games like that are much harder to store.

I am mostly starting work for the day, being fortunate enough to be able to work from home. I'll probably put on podcasts about law or about bad movies to fill the air once I get past this first cup of coffee and wake up.
