I think they sound hollow when you thump them... that's a general melon thing. idk if they're like cantelope but smell may also be a clue

god we had so many watermelon seed spitting fights when I was a kid

I mean, spitting them out is no big deal.

Watermelon with seeds are usually a little sweeter, but I'll eat either one.

Juice still gets everywhere though. Don't let that little shield fool you.
