i'm excited to experience my first voltra event, and for it to be reaping ritual!!

i'm not dressing up this year, unfortunately. there's not really anyone i can hang out with, so it doesn't make sense.
i'm going to do something small for samhain, and may alsos teal your sugar cookie idea, but beyond that i'll probably just watch a few movies!

@RainbowPanda: welcome back! i'm pretty newly fresh but if you need anything, let me know! people have been super generous to me so I have some items to spare!!

@Totalanimefan: it's gonna suck no matter what. I'm supposed to have it for this job because, in a non-COVID year, I would have some travel as part of being on call. But, COVID, we don't want to go to the hospital unless we have to, the hospital doesn't want us there, etc.

I'm doing my best to get it but it sucks to have work ask me every week or so for an update when I don't have one lol.

before i was listening to my duolingo korean lesson but right now there's an ad on mute

i've been weirdly nostalgic for vocaloid music tonight so i've been playing that as well

i realized i'd mostly just been editing my starting post so i wanted to give a quick thank you to all of those who have stopped by to chat or donate!! i really appreciate it ;A;

@Kairu: I hadn't checked out the sell threads yet-- I wanted to wait until I earned some Volts to start that!

@Totalanimefan: yeah. we weren't super close when i was growing up but once i started moving around for different things (internship in KY, grad school in IL, now working in OH) my mom and i started texting every night, and coming back to live at home from december until the end of july was humbling but also good for our relationships.

thanks. i know how to drive and finished all my hours (though it's now been almost 3 months since i've been behind the wheel soooo) but couldn't test at home, and trying to get an OH permit has been hell. i think i might just keep my home permit and practice & test while i'm home and off work for winter break.

@Totalanimefan: Yeah. I'm only a few hours away -but- I don't have a license right now (late learner, was ready to take the test and then COVID caused all of our drive testing to be cancelled -- it's been hell and a half trying to get it set up in Ohio) and due to working on a college campus that's luckily seen very few cases, travel is heavily discouraged.

I didn't think I was -that close- to my family until I moved out of state for grad school last year. I was miserable for several reasons, but main among them being I just missed my damn family.

@Totalanimefan: i've thought about it a few times tbh, but i think i have too many of my own issues to counsel professionally lmao.
i originally wanted to work with fraternities and sororities doing like diversity training and stuff, and i still think that'd be cool. i was in a (nontraditional) sorority and enjoyed my time and think that in general, they can be really cool platforms for good-- but there's a lot of bad apples in the system and a lot of alumni willing to protect them.

lately, though, with everything going on in the world, college jobs in general seem really unstable and even though i'm only 23 i'm really tired of moving states every few years. so idk. once my contract is done here i might try grad school again, or i might look for a job closer to home, doing something like content writing or editing, or maybe some kind of diversity training.

@Totalanimefan: i graduated in 2019 with a general studies degree. i messed up my last semester due to some health issues, and at the time was fast-tracking into grad school (then dropped out lmao) so i figured some degree was better than no degree. i started as an education major, switched after my third semester, and spent most of my time studying creative writing though, and had minors in counseling psych and women's studies. if i could do it over again i probably would have just majored psych and maybe minored creative writing.

@Totalanimefan: it's pretty cool in a lot of ways. i finished undergrad and this place only does undergrad, but i think we do technically get a discount on classes if we decide to take them as like, continued learning endeavors. i really like the field, it's just a bad time to be doing, well, anything, really.
