@Unicorn: What you do is roast the butternut squash in the oven, peel it, cut it up, toss it into a blender. Then on the stove in a bit of oil, sautee some chopped onions and garlic until translucent. Add to the butternut squash cream cheese, salt, and chicken broth, puree the shit out of it until it's a sauce. Then pour it over the onions and garlic on the stove and heat until bubbling. That's it! It's an excellent soup.
