Tulum, the Mayan village we just visited, is trying to reestablish the culture and live traditionally, including speaking Mayan as a first language (in addition to Spanish and English as secondary/tieriary languages). It's so important, IMO, to have some of these "true cultures" live on as authentically as possible in this age where everything is becoming so very globalized!

@inatlaka: Yes, I understand! And I don't blame you. This village is in the middle of the jungle. If you didn't know the road to it (from the main road) was there, you'd never see it, never know it was there. It was astoundingly beautiful to see and experience even the "tourist" part of their way of life <3 They didn't speak much Mayan while the tour group was there, but the little we heard was interesting!
