"Damn it, no!" the figure exclaimed, as he ran down the cold and barren street. Snow fell from the night sky, landing softly on the ground... covering up the footsteps he was leaving behind.

That wouldn't help him, though, and he knew it.

He took as many turns as he could, weaved through as many alleys as he could find, all in an effort to avoid... something.

FInally, he rounded a corner and dashed down the alley... only to find a brick way.

"....no..." he whispered, turning around and seeing a large looming shadow coming for him.

"JUST LEAVE US ALONE!" he yelled.

"We never did anything to you, just GO AWAY!" he shouted further, causing the shadow to pause for a moment, mere metres in front of him... but it then lunged straight towards him, engulfing him.

"AAAAAH!" he yelled, his eyes popping open and his body immediately going from laying down, to sitting up.

"...!" he let out a small gasp, before looking around and seeing where he was; his bed, in his bedroom, in his house.

He sighed heavily and shook his head, trying to calm himself down now.

When he looked around, he saw that the room was empty, save for him. There was no one else in there, but that really wasn't too surprising. His other half was a zombie and rarely needed to sleep. She did from time to time, but knowing her, she was currently dicking around on a game of some sort. After he'd managed to calm himself down enough to get up and go to get a drink, he noticed that there was light coming from the den.

And a cheer.

She was playing something, probably online, and most likely just trampled whomever her competition was.

He peered into the den saw that his suspicions were, in fact, correct.

He made his way to the fridge and grabbed a drink, what he'd just gone through lingering in his mind.

Demons like him didn't have nightmares. However, he was prone to PTSD-like flashbacks... and this one happened to occur when he had been voluntarily undergoing a bit of a recharge, similar to sleep for a human.

"....." he was silent, before looking at his phone, and sending a text to someone.

Hey. it read.

You doin' all right? the next one asked.

... You don't usually text me at ungodly hours like this. Was the reply he got.

But I'm all right. Nursing a migraine from dealing with morons all day though. Followed a few seconds later.

... why? Was the last one, before she stopped, giving him a chance to respond.

Oh, no reason. he sent.

He then paused, and sighed.

Okay, that's a lie. he admitted in the immediate text that followed.

He paused once more, before just shaking his head.

There was no sense in avoiding this or trying to surgarcoat it.

I had a flashback. he sent then.

Of... well... back then. he finished, giving HER time to respond now.

Back then? Was the respond that he received a few seconds later.

... you mean with the shadow, don't you? followed a few seconds later. He could hear the slight exasperation, and concern, in her text though.

It may be a problem if you do.

"....." he was silent, before sighing.

Can I call? he asked.

Sure. was the response.

He then dialled her number, and she picked up quickly.

"Yes." he said.

"I mean the shadow." he told her.

"It felt like it came even closer to... well... getting me..." he mumbled further.

"... that's alarming, Az." The one he called responded.

"Anyay, this is just..." Az started before she continued.

"Unnerving and disconcering?" Anya finished.

"I get it. It really is." She continued.

"Just... try not to freak out about this. It could be nothing. Keep a log, maybe?"

"It seems so real, though." he then sighed.

"I know, Az." She assured him.

"sadly, all we can do is just ... push through it. You can't lose youself to this, otherwise it really will come back for you." She said.

"you remember what happened to Noah, right?" She asked after a moment or two. "I really don't want to se that happen to you."

"...I do." he replied.

"I don't want anything like that to happen to those I care for." he told her.

He was then silent again, before sighing.

"Anyway, I'll... go and calm down, write this is a journal." he then said.

"Sorry for bothering you." he apologised.

Az, you aren't a bother." Anya assured him after a few seconds.

"Please don't think that when you need to talk to someone, it's a bother." she added.

"Just shows how human you are." she added, not meaning it as an insult, even though anyone in their positions could think so.

"Heh." he chuckled.

"Thanks Anya." he said further.

"I'll see you..." he started to say further, before pausing.

"ARE you still under contract at the Unit?" he asked.

"I don't know if your current is up or not." he admitted.

"Yeah, ran out last week." She told him honestly.

"It's something that I know can, and probably will, be refreshed at a later date, but for the moment, it's not a thing." She added.

"I mean, we COULD meet up for drinks if you'd like." he said.

"I know this isn't the best time, but the flashback reminded me of... well... things." he went on.

"And we haven't really met up as friends in a bit." he said further.

"If you want to, we can now." She told him honestly.

"Neither of us sleep, after all." She added.

"If you need a drink to wash that away, gimme a place and we can meet up, or you can come here."

"...huh." he said.

"I didn't necessarily mean NOW, but I'm not opposed to it." he said.

'How about 'The Corner Oasis'?" he asked.

"We're both friends with the bar owner, and he knows what we are." he reasoned.

"Their stuff tastes good, too." he added.

"And sure thing. I can be there in about ten minutes or so." She added. "If that works for you." She paused a moment, and he could hear her get to her fet.

"However, I do hope you realise that there is a good chance for some hitchhikers."

He just sighed.

"I'm always aware of that." he said.

"Hasn't bothered me yet." he told her.

"Anyway, meet you there in 10." he finished.

With that, they ended the call, and he paused. He made his way to where his 'other half' was, and noticed she was in the middle of... not doing much. Just seemed like she was dealing with some inventory stuff.

He decided this was a good time, and tapped her on the shoulder to get her attention.

"Can't sleep?" She asked before making sure that she wasn't about to be devoured or anything, and turning to face Azazel.

"You don't usually get up and call someone like that. I overheard the phone call." She added.
