Ash just sighed.

"Great." he said.

"Wonderful." he growled.

He staggered out from the nearby patch of woods, shaking his head and trying to get his bearings.

And failing.

All he could do was walk forward, until he felt himself step from soft ground to hard asphalt.

And then he saw bright lights headed towards him quickly.

Why can't I just be

Her speed had been too high, but she had brilliant reflexes. She managed to dodge him, even if it caused her to skid to the side, her bike continuing on and getting one hell of a scratch job on it the side, as she hit the asphalt hard and rolled off, unintentionally rolling into the one she'd dodged to avoid hitting.

About ten minutes later when she stirred and finally managed to sit up, she realised that she was off on the shoulder of the road, her bike was too, and finally, the man that she'd seen in the middle of the road was there,looking no worse for wear from that impact.

She looked him from head to toe before sighing, heavily.

".... This isn't a case of me being dead, huh." She said, not even asked. She could just tell.

"Bingo." he replied.

"Nice roll, by the way." he said.

"I was not prepared for it." he told her, showing her a skinned elbow he'd received from their collision.

"Sorry about that." he then apologised.

"I was out of sorts and literally just wandering aimlessly, my head in a daze."

She was silent for a moment before sighing.

"Well, it gave me the mother of all headaches, but at least it didn't break any bones." She commented, checking herself over before tentatively getting to her feet to test that as well.

"Do you have any idea what happened?" She asked. "And sorry about that, but ... I think we're both just lucky I didn't actually hit you on that thing." She added, motioning to her bike before starting to head over to it. She wanted to check it over, make sure it was all right.

Jack just followed her.

"Lucky? Maybe." he said.

"Pretty sure I can't die. And neither can you." he told her.

"Nobody can." he went on.

"If I'm alive and a human again, it means death does not exist in ANY capacity." he reasoned.

"As for what happened, a massive surge or necromantic mana. That's all I know."

Ashleigh just sighed, heavily.

"Nacromatic mana, huh?" She asked. "... can't say that surprises me." As she spoke, she was making her way to her bike and righting it again.

"Doubt anything else could actually do something like that." She added, checking her bike over to make sure it was all right.

"Looks to be primarily cosmetic damage, thankfully." She answered honestly.

"I'll get it properly checked once I'm back in the city." She added before looking over to Jack and tossing a helmet that he hadn't noticed her grab at him.

"Come on." She said. "I'm sure you've got nowhere to go, so come stay with me and Emerald."

He reflexively caught the helmet, looking at it for a moment, and then looking at her, before sighing.

"...Rylie..." he said.

"I don't know what I did to deserve this, but I'm not going to complain." he told her, making his way over and putting the helmet on.

"You're pretty much the only one on this plane that I know." he said further.

"Well... aside from all the now-former reapers, but you get my point."

"And the Kiczys' girl. Haven't you and her had .... interactions before?" Rylie asked as she climbed onto the bike and waited for him, making sure to put her own helmet on. Even if he was right about not being able to die, that didn't mean she wanted to feel that insane pain from her skull cracking on the pavement should she crash.

"Barring her mother, she's the strongest single necromancer onthe planet, so... it would make sense that maybe you two have met." She added.

"Climb on and hold tight."

Jack climbed onto the bike and paused for a moment.

He wrapped his arms around her waist, and nodding, signaling he was ready.

"A few times." he said.

"And I mean, once or twice." he clarified.

"Even then, not sure how well I'd be received." he then admitted.

"Bearing in mind, I'm not the nicest guy. I'm... blunt and pretty much an asshole."

"True. You really can be." Rylie agreed after a moment or two.

"You good?" She asked. After he confirmed he was, they were off.

About an hour later, she pulled into a driveway and turned the bike off.

"Come on. There's food inside." She said. "I felt your stomach growl, and I'm willing to bet you forgot that eating was a necessary thing. Hasn't been needed for you for ... uhh... ever." As she spoke, she climbed off the bike and took the helmet off, holding it under her arm.

Jake dismounted and removed his helmet as well, before sighing.

"Yeah." he said.

"I'd forgotten just how hunger feels." he told her.

"...I'd be lying if I said I completely dislike it." he then admitted.

"I'd forgotten just how it feels to be... alive. To be human." he went on. "Over time, the memories of that just... faded. And looking back, maybe I was grateful for that." he then said further.

"Mostly because not eating or sleeping and all was driving me to the point of insanity when I wasn't used to it." he continued.

"I'll have to go through with it again, assuming this is reversed and the world is saved."

"At least the other reapers can help you out, because all of them will need to go through it again as well." Rylie commented as they made their way up to the door. She opened the door and stepped in.

"Yo! Emerald!" She called into the house as she kicked her shoes off and hung the helmet.

"Come on. Do you care what you eat?" She asked. "Because if you don't care, I think we have some left over Indian if you're cool with spicy."

"At this point, I'll eat anything." he told her.

"Odds are if I were still out there, I'd be trying to hunt some woodland creature to eat raw." he admitted frankly. "Not like it'll kill me anyway." he muttered.

"Coming!" Emerald called back, quickly making his way to where she was, and stopping abruptly when he saw Jack.

"Oh? Hello." he greeted him.

"Hey." Jake muttered in response.

"We've got company for a bit." She told her love before sighing lightly.

"Yes I know this is out of nowhere. Sorry." She added.

"Also, I'm giving him the remaining curry you've got." She added. "I'll replace it later." She added, making her way past him to the fridge.

This caused Jack to hold back a snicker, before he laughed out loud.

"Oh! You're precious!" he exclaimed.

"I can see why she likes you!"

"Be nice!" Rylie called to them, having kind of heard what was said, just before they heard the microwave start.

"If you want to get cleaned up after eating, I can find you some clothing to make sure you've got something else to wear at least." She added as she returned to where they were.

"Heating it up." She said. "Shouldn't take long. Thirsty?" She asked Jack before looking to Emerald.

"Let's just put it this way, death has taken a holiday."

"Yes." he replied.

"Extremely." he told her, before pausing.

"...ah, right." he mumbled, seemingly remembering something about himself, and his body. "I really liked alcohol..." he sighed quietly.

"And yeah, what she said." he then told Emerald.

"Death doesn't exist, and the natural balance is thrown outta whack."
