Roxie paused.

She wasn't one to rejected a drink, but she also knew that it would have a random effect on her magic.

"That would be lovely." She answered before sighing.

"Sadly, I cannot partake." She added. "Could I just have an ice tea please?" She asked the server, who nodded.

"Thank you."

- - - -All right, she is finished. You may speak again.

"I'll be back with your drinks." the server then said, before leaving to get them.

Hal then looked at Roxie, and smiled.

"So." he said.

"Do you live here?" he asked.

"Just passing through? What?" he asked further.

And Roxie could tell he seemed to be smitten with her. Which wasn't surprising.

He couldn't stop looking at her. He was entranced by her.

"Just passing through." Roxie answered.

"While on the hunt for someone to live and work, so I have no idea how long I will be here." She added with a light sigh. She figured might as well be semi honest, at the very least, considering the current situation.

I don't know if I can keep him ... he honesstrly seems too nice. dammit. She thought with a mental scowl.

"Oh?" Hal asked.

"Maybe I can help." he said.

"I know some employers looking for positions filled." he told her.

"What are you looking for?" he asked.

"And what kind of skillset do you have?" he asked further.

"I have a skillset that isn't meant to be spoken of in public." Roxie answered before pausing, and sighing.

He really did seem to be too nice... she couldn't do this. Normally, she went after the dredges of society, pedophiles, domestic abusers, drug addicts, adulterers, etc. Hal seemed to be too reasonable, too nice. So, she just sighed again, lightly, before letting the tendrils fade a bit. They still had him, but it'd be easy enough for him to break out.

As soon as she let them fade, she noticed something.

Hal's own internal mana was strong... and it had already been working to free him from her 'grasp'. Which meant that as soon as she tendrils fade some, they were broken almost instantly.

Which was when Hal seemed to snap out of it.

"......" he was silent for a moment, before looking right at Roxie.

"...I see..." he said.

"Normally ones such as yourself don't weaken your hold so willingly." he commented.

Roxie just sighed before getting to her feet. She pulled out a wallet from her pocket and set a ten down on the table.

"To cover the iced tea." she said.

"And no. I have a certain standard I go for. You don't fit into that... you're too good of a person." She added.

"farewell." She said before turning to leave. The restaurant was busy though, so it was a slow process to weave through the people.

A few seconds later, she felt a hand on her shoulder.

"Wait." Hal said.

"Stay." he told her.

"Please. I wish to talk to you." he said.

"I feel we have some things to discuss." he went on. "Or... rather, I feel that you have some things that you would like to talk about, and I am willing to listen." he clarified.

"And I still might be able to help." he then said further.

"If you'll give me the chance to, that is."

As he spoke, Roxie could hear the sincerity in his tone. He was no longer under her influence or control, but it seemed he didn't hold a grudge towards her. It seemed like he genuinely wished to hear her out, and potentially help her.

Roxie was silent for a moment before biting her bottom lip a bit. She didn't say anything before sighing and nodding.

"All right." she said, making her way back to her seat and sitting down.

"And what makes you think I have things I need to talk about?" She asked, her voice curious

"Intuition, I suppose." Hal responded.

"I can just tell you have a story." he said.

"I mean, we all do, but I'll bet your's is particularly interesting." he went on.

"You seem different from the others." he told her.

"You seem to have a... moral compass."

"A bit of one." Roxie conceeded.

"Not much, admittedly, but I do have enough of one to not go after those who do not want, or do not deserve it." She paused a moment.

"I can completely destroy lives."

Hal just sighed.

"I know." he replied.

"Many of your kind in the past have tried with me." he told her.

"I'm never what they expect." he went on.

He then looked around and made sure nobody was looking... before lowering his sunglasses... and allowing her to see the blue glow his eyes had.

"And they always regret it." he smirked.

Roxie was silent for a moment as she just watched the shifting glow before shaking her head lightly with a sigh.

"Djinns always are a mess when we come across you." She then conceded.

"It's... shocking, really." She added. "But... most don't end well." She paused, acquiring more of a pointed expression on her face as she met his gaze again.

"Are you going to bring trouble upon me for my slip up?"

"See, I had planned to." Hal responded honestly.

"But then you released your hold, so to speak. That made me start to reconsider." he told her.

"And after hearing all this, I have no intention of bringing you trouble." he went on.

"As a matter of fact, I still want to help you." he told her further, as the server returned with their drinks.

"If you'll still join me for something to eat, of course." he then added.

"You're welcome to eat." Roxie told him honestly.

"I, sadly, lack the means at the moment to get a decent meal." She added with a light sigh.

"Hence why I was even out there in the first place, trying to find some lowlife to rob." She admitted honestly.

"And help? How? How would you help? I don't own you, and as a result I have no right to use your magic."

Hal was silent for a moment, before sighing.

"A number of things." he told her.

"One. I'm still willing to foot the bill for dinner, so you can have a GOOD meal. Not just a decent meal, but a GOOD meal." he said, addressing her first point.

"Two. That is why I want to try and help you. To get you out of this situation. You seem far too nice and sensible for this to be the situation you're in." he went on.

"And three. Nobody owns me." he said further. "I'm free." he told her.

"Besides, I wasn't talking about using my magic to help you." he then added.

"So, I ask again, will you join me for dinner?" he asked her.

Roxie was silent as Hal said all he did.

". . . . Right..." She said silently befor epausing.

'If you are sure, I would gladly accept a meal." She answered.

"And... I have to ask then, how could you help?"

"Excellent." he replied.

"And... well... how can I help? I am in a position of authority at an organization that can make constructive use of your unique abilities." he told her.

"You've heard of Special Unit 3?" he asked.

"I'm the head of it all."

Roxie was silent for a moment before sighing.

"So you're the reason I've had that Unit after my head on so many occassions." She commented with a bit of a sharp tone to her voice. It was true though, she'd been the target for things seeral times, but they had all been cases that were largely determined after the fact to be utter bullshit.

"I jest. I know it's not your fault." She then said.

"But I do know of what you speak. And what could I do? I'm not a fighter or anything."

Hal just sighed in response.

"I try my best to fix any misunderstandings." he told her.

"I know not to make snap judgements." he said.

"But your abilities could be very useful in interrogations." he went on.

"Some influence and sweet talk, and suspects could confess what we need to know, or give out vital information." he explained further.

"And you can stay on site, we have dorms." he continued.

"Plus... well, the R&D department might be able to help you reign in your powers when you don't want them to be active." he finished.
