Evan was silent again, before thinking for a moment.

"Actually... yeah. I do." he replied.

"I feel like I DO have a lot of energy suddenly." he admitted.

"....can you wait for a couple of minutes?" he asked.

"I should be properly dressed to run..."

The heat in the house was noticed by all those that were inside. Including her father and uncle. However, her uncle was already on his way upstairs when she arrived, and he raised an eyebrow when he felt this.

"Eh?" he muttered, looking around slightly.

He then continued on his way, making his way towards Sammy.

"....uhhh, hey, Sammy." he greeted her.

"Something up?" he asked.

"You seem a bit... peeved." he commented, understating it.

Ash was silent for a moment, processing this in.

"....I'm sorry?" he asked.

"What?" he asked further.

"Kicked off the track team!? Why!?" he asked her.

"Seriously, you were the best they had. Their star athlete!" he exclaimed.

"Why did they kick you off so suddenly?"

".............." Ash was silent for a moment, before taking out his phone and sending a text.

"I see." he said.

"Firey... wings." he muttered.

"Yeah, this is something you need to discuss this with your Dad." he told her.

"Sounds like this is HIS DNA at work." he commented further.

"Maybe we can get the decision reversed." Ash suggested.

"Seriously. It's something that can happen." he told her.

"....also, you've picked up some colourful language." he added, as Lindsay came downstairs.

"What's going on?" he asked.

"YOUR DNA is screwing with your daughter's scholastic athletic career." Ash told him.

"She'll fill you in." he added, before leaving the two of them to chat.

".........." Lindsay was silent as he heard that.

"That... doesn't sound right." he said.

"Which is to say, barred from even trying to appeal your case?" he asked further. "No, that... that sounds like we may need to get some professional help in here." he went on.

"Which is to say, your Aunt Kalin." he clarified.

"You shouldn't be barred over something you had no control over. Your genetics." he reasoned.

"I'm going to see if I can get some legal advice here." he told her.

Lindsay pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Guess I should have a talk with some of the staff there." he said.

"This is not fair to you, but that's understating the obvious." he commented.

"And... for what it's worth, I do apologize for this, as I am technically responsible for this dilemma of yours." he told her.

"...even though I KNOW I told your school about potentially odd genetics between your mother and I..." he then mumbled.

"Damn it." he cursed, Sammy seeing one of the rare times her pacifist father getting genuinely angry.

"It is." her father agreed.

"Which is why I'm going to see if Kalin has any advice for us." he told her.

With that, he took out his cell phone, and called the woman in question. For whatever reason, it went to voicemail. He guessed it was because she was either away from her phone, or she was currently working/busy.

Or both.

"Kalin, it's Lindsay. Samantha and I have some legal questions for you. Call me back when you get the chance to set up a consultation." he said, before hanging up.

He then sighed, and shook his head, pinching the bridge of his nose again.

"The genetics you inherited from me are picking a fine time to shine..." he grumbled impotently.

"Which is the truly unfair part." Lindsay said.

"...suspiciously so..." he then mumbled.

"If I were a paranoid man, I'd wonder if some sort of politics were taking place, here..." he said further, scratching at his chin a little.

"If I were paranoid." he repeated.

"....I still can't help but wonder." he mumbled, shaking his head again.

"Regardless, yes, it means you get mana, as well as your brother." he agreed. "It means far less complicated problems in the future." he said.

"But that does nothing for right NOW." he sighed.

"Right now, we need to wait to hear back from your aunt."

Lindsay watched her go, and sighed.

"......." he was then silent, before sitting down in a nearby chair.

"This makes no sense..." he said.

"Why would the school not even let her argue her case?" he asked quietly.

"Damn it." he cursed further.

His daughter loved running, and now the school was barring her from doing it, essentially. He wondered how much worse things would get for her, if this false reputation stuck with her.
