"Well i told you i have hyperthyroidism. Turns out, that causes...heart problems. I was tolld...pretty early on in life that..i probably wouldnt live past 30, and my most likely cause of death would be...heart failure" he sighed.

He looked at Ryker with tears in his eyes.

"I almost...left you all alone...because i was angry" he clenched his fists.

"You would have been alone again...im so stupid"

"I cant do things like that...i cant...i just cant bear the thought of leaving you" it was the whole reason he was truly upset.

Ryker leaned forward, closer to Eke.

"As I said, your options were limited." he told him.

"Tell me something." he said.

"Do you honestly think I stood a chance against that dragon?" he asked.

"If not, then your choices were for me to die trying to protect you, while you got taken away, you get taken away, but I'm left alive, in which case I probably either go back to trying to end myself, or chasing after you until the inevitable fight with the dragon, or doing what you did." he told him further.

"And given that we're both here, alive, I'd say it's the best possible outcome."

"you look exhausted" he took rykers hand.

"Im surprised no one said anything about me being non human" he yawned and finished his water.

Ryker looked back towards the door, and sighed.

"I'll get in trouble if I'm caught sharing a bed with you." he said.

"...but I suppose a little while might be all right, as long as no-one knows." he muttered.

"Dunno if I'll sleep, but it'll be more comfortable, at least." he then reasoned.

"As for the non-human thing, the doctors said it's not their place to judge based on looks or race or whatever, they are there to save lives." he told Eke.

"That's pretty much their words exactly." he added.

He smiled and scoot over. "Hospitals let family members lay with patients sometimes."

He put down his cup and closed his eyes.

He WAS tired but he didnt sleep wel if ryker wasnt next to him.

Ryker was silent for a moment, before he carefully got onto the bed.

"All right." he said.

"Guess it helps this bed seems to be a bit larger than ones I've seen before." he mumbled.

"Oh well." he said further with a small sigh.

He then got as comfortable as he dared, and started to stare at the ceiling.

"Least it's warm in here, eh?" he asked him.

Immediately, Eke curled up into Ryker.

"I wouldnt care if it was freezing. As long as i have you i dont care" he smiled.

He coughed a bit from pain in his chest, but his signature smile was back.

He closed his eyes, still smiling, wrapping his tail around rykers waist.

"The bed isnt all that big, im just really small" he grinned and yawned.

Ryker felt his face become a little warmer when Eke made his first comment. Which made sense... he was blushing slightly.

"Ah... heh." he chuckled lightly.

"Fair enough." he said.

"Just so long as you can get comfortable and sleep." he told him.

"That's all that matters here."

"You should sleep too.." he said while drifting off to sleep.

The ekg monitor beeped steadily for hours as he slept.

It was starting to look like he was going to sleep another full day but it was dinner time when he blinked awake, his stomach growling loudly.

The stomach had awoken Ryker as well, and he looked at Eke with a smirk.

"Hungry?" he asked.

"I still have some jerky in my bag, as well as some fruit." he told him..

"It's not exactly a full meal, but it might take the edge off." he then reasoned with a shrug.

"Lemme know if you wanna try that, at least until someone comes with food."

'Okay... that... that was cute.' he thought.

"Uh, the date?" he asked.

"Hang on." he told him, reaching over the side of the bed, digging through the bag, and taking a small booklet out. He rifled through the pages, before stopping on one.

"Uhhh... September... 30th." he reported.

"Its nothing..." he started to move his legs trying to keep them from getting stiff.

"Its just...tomomrrow is my birthday..." he sighed. He had never had a good birthday.

His steps were stiff and caused a bit of pain.
