No sooner had she said that, did Rene snap his finger and a bubble of water formed under her, causing her to gently fall into it, like a water bed.

"All right." he said.

"Come on." he told her.

"YOU." he then said to Darrell. "Are in charge of fielding any questions about her and all this." he continued.

"Got it." Darrell replied.

"There anything I can do for her in the time being?" he asked.

"Nope." Rene responded, as he and Sammy started to make their way out of the room.

Sure enough, sometime later, Sammy was in her bed, recovering. She'd stressed her body out, of course, but she knew she'd be fine. Even if she was going to be stuck in bed for a bit.

She had her phone, her laptop, and whatnot... so she was sure she'd be good. Although being stuck in place like this for a day or two was most definitely not her idea of a good time.

"Nope. Still worth it." She muttered as she shifted position a bit and grabbed her laptop. Her torso hurt like hell, but she knew she'd be all right, at some point.

After a bit, she heard some footsteps, and looked towards the doorway. She saw Evan and Kitt, and they both entered.

Kitt made her way to the side of the bed, and laid down against it, so Sammy could let her arm hang down and pet her head if he wanted to.

Evan just sighed.

"So." he said.

"How ya doing?" he asked.

"How ya feeling?" he asked further.

"You looked pretty bad when you got here..." he added, concern in his tone.

Sammy was silent for a moment before scritching the kitty.

"I hurt like a bitch, but I'll be all right." She assured her brother.

"And before you ask, yes. Yes it was worth it." She added with a smile.

"Very much so." She said, not realising that he could take that to mean that she DID get the scholarship she was after.

Evan just smirked.

"Heh." he chuckled.

"Awesome." he said.

"Glad to hear that it was worth it." he told her.

"And congrats." he said further.

"You'll be making it through Uni all on your own." he continued.

"After all this pain and suffering, it's the least you deserve." he added with a thumbs-up, genuine happiness in his tone.

"I gave the scholarship up." She told him honestly.

"Going to work for a couple years to fund my way through school."

"You... you what?" he asked.

"You gave it up...?" he asked her.

"You went to hell and back for it... and gave it up!?" he then exclaimed.

"But... but why!?" he asked her.

"Why did you just give it up!?"

Sammy sighed lightly.

"because I knew I'd feel guilty if I didn't." She answered.

"The hell do you mean by that!?" Evan half exclaimed, demanding an answer.

"I mean that Jack, the dude that was also competing against me for the scholarship, ... his leg gave out." She told him.

"I helped him to the finish line, and pushed him over it first. He got the win, not me."

"....Jack....?" Evan muttered, before thinking about it.

"Jack... Redmond?" he asked further.

She nodded in response.

"....oh..." Evan muttered.

"I... thought he wasn't able to compete." he went on.

"...damn..." he mumbled, all the wind having left his sails now.

"I... just... damn..." was all he could get out.

"I guess he got the okay to, and wanted to try." Sammy told him honestly.

"He almost didn't manage to finish though. Crashed a few metres from the finish line." She added with a sigh.

"So, since I hadn't crossed, I doubled back and grabbed him, helping him over it. I couldn't take the win over competition that physically gave out at the end there."

Evan just sighed.

"I remember that this was THE chance for him..." he said.

"From all you've mentioned in the past." he continued.

"I..." he then stammered, before just looking off to the side.

Sammy could see that he was feeling... conflicted. But it was mostly to do with himself. He was wondering if he would have been able to do what she did, give up something when one worked so hard for it.

"...pretty sure even Mom won't be able to get mad at you for this." he commented.

Shortly after that, Darrell came in to see her, with Kitt growling slightly, but not making any moves.

"How are you feeling?" he asked.

"Better than before, I hope."

"Thank you so much." She added. "Honestly, I probably wouldn't have done so well had you not been there."

"Also, you're damned nice to look at." She added with a smirk, showing that she realised that he had been topless.

"Ah... ah-hah..." he chuckled nervously.

"Th-thanks." he stammered.

"That's... really amazing." he continued.

"You're an awesome person."

He then looked at Kitt, who let out a low sound... but not a growl... before she laid her head down and closed her eyes.

"Huh." he mumbled.

"First time she's ever closed her eyes like that in my presence."

Sammy paused as Darrell mentioned Kitt as he did.

"Well, I guess that's one way to show that she's starting to trust you." She commented.

"Starting to." She repeated before sighing lightly.

"Who knows how long until she properly trusts you."

"And... who knows how they will take it." She commented.

"I certainly have no idea, but at the same time, I'm really not that worried about it. I'll take whatever they throw at me for this."
