"...oh jeez." Chris muttered.

He then burst into the room, and just as those that were working there turned to look at him... and just as Angela was about to demand he leave, Chris built up mana within him. As he did, his pupils dissipated and his irises turned very light blue... and everything froze in the room.

"...right." he mumbled.

He then went about, touching the various people that were working there, causing them to start to move again, with Angela being the last one.

"Don't dawdle." he told her.

"I can only keep this up for... about an hour or so." he warned.

"But save that woman's life." he finished, gesturing to Kiah.

Angela was silent for a moment or two, not even moving before just starting to bark orders. Obviously trying to process what it was that chris just did, and the fact that he'd even done it in the first place/

Sure enough, about forty-five minutes later, Angela approached where Chris was.

"You can chill with the mana." She told him simply.

"She's going to be out of commission for a bit, but she should survive." She added.

Chris was starting to sweat a little by this point, but he released his mana control, and his eyes returned to normal... before he almost collapsed to the floor, steadying himself against a wall.

"Cool." he said.

"Good." he said further.

"I'm going back to my room." he told her.

"Going to lay down in bed and get myself back in sorts, so to speak." he went on, as he started to head to the door.

"All that matters is that she'll survive." he then reasoned.

"...and that wall clock's gonna need to be brought back up to speed." he added at the end.

Angela was silent before looking to the clock as Ashleigh stepped up.

"I got 'im. Don't worry." She assured the medic, who just nodded, before ashleigh took Chris back to wherehe'd woken.

After he was back in bed, she just looked to him, crossing her arms.

"... Why?" She asked.

"why did you jump so earnestly into helping her?"

Chris just sighed quietly.

"Why?" he asked.

"...I don't know." he said.

"I just... wanted to." he told her.

"I mean... I felt like I should." he said further.

"I realised there was something I could do to help... that I was the only chance she had... and something inside me screamed that I needed to intervene and do something." he went on.

"So... so I listened to whatever that was inside me."

"Sounds like you've got a working moral compass and conscience now that my sisters claws aren't in your head." She commented candidly.

"and that can mean more than you realise." She added.

".....huh." Chris muttered.

"Maybe." he said.

"We'll see, I guess." he sighed.

He then laid back, and stared at the ceiling, relaxing his body.

"And I'm tired now." he said.

"Well... drained, I suppose is more accurate." he clarified.

"I think I'm just going to lay her and do nothing for a while." he went on.

"Besides let my mind reel with all these new concepts that I've become aware of." he added.

Ashleigh just sighed.

"It's not going to be easy." She commented.

"Not at all. You'll find that there's far more to life than you've ever known." she continued efore meeting his gaze.

"But if you are serious about trying, then I'm sure you'l get the chance." She told him. "You saved Kiah's life. That won't account for nothing." She paused a moment.

"Demi'll probably fight for you to have a chance because of that, even."

Chris glanced at her.

"....we'll see." he said.

"I..." he stammered.

"I won't fight whatever decision the Council and Triad come to." he told her.

"But... I..." he stammered.

"I won't lie." he went on, pausing for a moment.

"I... I want..." he continued, trying to say something, but almost finding himself unable to say it... before taking a small breath.

"I want to live."

"Relish it. For now, I do need to take off." She then said.

"Okay." Chris replied.

"Make sure to tell the right people you're leaving." he told her.

"Odds are they'll want to escort me to a proper holding cell, now that I'm well enough to move on my own." he reasoned.

"...and I don't blame them." he went on.

"But... yeah, just make sure they know you're not here guarding me any longer." he sighed.

He then closed his eyes, and relaxed his body even further, though his mind was still racing.

"And they won't be too worried about it. At least not immediately." She commented.

"Remember, you're technically mine for now." she reminded him.

"So for now, you're safe." She assured him.

He then yawned, but didn't sleep.

He was too wired to sleep.

"...see ya, Ashleigh." he then said.

"......thank you." he told her.

"I know you're one of the people that... well... I wouldn't blame for killing me instantly."

"I can't. One, I don't kill people, and two, you and I have both done shitty things while with my sister." She told him.

"I've just been given the chance to move past it, and create a life on my own." She continued.

"And now you'll finally have a chance to do so."

He then let out a heavy sigh... but she could tell there was relief in it.

"...heh." he chuckled.

"Bring free from Vanessa." he commented.

"...I like it." he said.

"I like these new feelings."

"It's quite a rush, isn't it?" Ashleigh asked with a chuckle.

"I'll probably see you again." she added as she made her way to the door.

"And stay out of trouble." Was the last thing she said before leaving the room.

He watched her go, and sighed.

"Even if I had a choice, I'd still listen to that." he mumbled.

As she walked, Ashleigh heard some of the people mumbling... mostly about Chris and what he'd done.

From what she was able to hear and gather, Kiah was already improving, and her chances of survival were all but confirmed.

And that this wouldn't be the case under any other circumstances.

Chris had literally saved Kiah's life.

And odds were that those that cared about her would have some very confused and mixed feelings about this.

A couple of days later, Chris had made his way down to the cafeteria - probably being surprised at the bit of freedom he had - with his escort, a woman who was notably shorter than he was, but also one that he knew could handle him.

They stepped into the room and she took notice of how busy it was.

"Go grab some food. And of course, no mana. you know the deal." The short woman stated simply.

"I know." Chris replied.

He then made his way to where to get food, and got something simple; some stew, some rolls, a bottle of water, and a slice of cake.

Once he had his food, he looked around, seeing a lot of the tables were quite full... not that he guessed people would be happy to have him for dining company, anyway. He then noticed Hazel sitting at a table, mostly alone, and sighed.

He made his way over and quietly sat down across from her.

"...hi." he then greeted her after a moment.

The one that had accommpanied him there just took a seat a table or two away, watching him.

Hazel didn't say anything for a few seconds.

"hi." She said simply, her voice rather flat, almost dead.

Overall, it was a tone he was very used to hearing from people, but it wasn't easy to identify exactly why here. It could be a couple of different reasons, and neither of them were particularly pleasant, but not possible to truly identify which it was.

She wasn't even really eating, either, just picking at the food she grabbed.
