@Wildfire: yeah, I got my submission to an anthology in like 2 days before it was due. I was like running late on it almost. I was like shit, I'm going to have to tell them I'm late.

@vengeance: Yes, it certainly can be. Fortunately I can usually bounce between things as I feel like it or as they shift on the list of priorities. Until recently, the kids were the biggest thing. Now that they're older, they are taking on more responsibility and freeing me up to pursue my interests, etc.

@Wildfire: I'm in a lot of indie reading groups on Facebook where I can promote my stuff which helps a lot. It also helps me collect readers so I have some readers who will buy my books whenever they come out.
But it's not as easy to get sales without a publisher because it's all on yourself.
