@dawnpainterz: same here. That's really impressive!
Buying/drawing art for: Showstopper, Bouncer, Yes Dark Master
haha I'm not up to date on this pixel hangout but I saw the little maker linked on the front page and had to make one. ahh fun

@Jolly: oh yes shrinking stuff does always make it crisper haha I just direct linked since I didn't reupload haha

@Jolly: ah my Japanese is at like 0% so I feel like I couldn't navigate that site haha

What exactly qualifies as a tileset? I know in general, an image that blends seamlessly with itself within an array, but are there any additional caveats when concerning pixel art? Also, so long as the end result fits within the style, is it in keeping with the intention of this thread if it's not done in a more traditional way?

@Avocado: Requirements for tilesets are often different project to project depending on styles and dimensions needed for the game. I don't think there's a hard and fast rule that must be followed, though I know many RPGMaker assets in particular tend to use the same dimensions. Aside from that I believe the intention of the thread is to hand pixel rather than using tool assisted shading. I'm not sure if that answers your question or not.

@priestess of pie:
It does, in fact! Does it count as tool assisted to use the shrink/grow method? What if it's used for the base, and then cleaned up?

same, thats why I rely on either google translating the page for me, or good ol' "lets click this button and learn what happens" :vanora_xd:
@koneko:
aww Im glad you didnt let intimidation stop you! I love your sword, the hearts in it are cute <3

Seems the first question was answered pretty well. I'm not familiar with these shrink/grow methods. I dont imagine it'd be a problem as long as it is pixel art you're creating yourself <3
I'll also add that you're not required to draw the thread's biweekly themes. Those just give everyone something to work on together for fun.
Really, you can pixel anything and show it off in here!

What if I use a 3D object that I made, and applied a pixel angle map (that I also made)? It doesn't do things like cast shadows or light bleed, so it always need additional shading. It's good to get a quick idea on the screen. And where do you stand on color ramps?

I use them to limit the palette! It's easier to keep the shading the same shades of gray for light/midtones/dark, and then go back over per area with a color ramp (the program I like to use has a 'constant' setting, which means no gradient transitions) or just smack it down to get the idea of where to put the shadows in the first place before cleanup and beautifying.

This is exactly the same concept, just non-destructive.
