@sunny: Oh cool - what kind of novel are you working on writing?
I'm currently goofing around on DuoLingo

@Wildfire: it's a sci fi/apocalypse story about a woman with autism. What language are you learning?

@sunny: Wow - that's quite a niche!! How's it going?
I'm trying to learn Italian at the moment. I really would like to find a real course to take

@Wildfire: It's an interesting niche! It's quite fun to write, but I'm still at the beginning.
Oh! Io so un po 'di Italiano! I lived there for 5 months a few years back. How's are you liking it?

@sunny: Oh! you do! That's awesome. I'm doing ok with it- Duolingo is not the best option to really learn a language. That said, I have some vocabulary at my disposal, and what I was able to learn did come in handy when we visited Rome last summer. I'm currently trying to refresh that set of skills and vocab in order to move forward. I really like learning languages - it's keeping up with them that's the problem!!

@Wildfire: oh that's great! I am terrible at languages tbh. I was learning Arabic, and I want to pick it up again.

@sunny: I bet! So what made you choose that language to try picking up?
Report

Donator Posted 4 years ago ( 2020/04/21 23:20:38 )

@Wildfire: well Arabic is the second most spoken language in the UK, so I wanted to be able to communicate if the need ever arose. It's also a beautiful sounding language imo.

@sunny: Makes sense. I was just curious. People choose to learn another language for different reasons.

@sunny: Uhhh... well, I have a background with French from high school, but was getting frustrated trying to refresh my memory of that language ("I should know this word!!!"). I knew that Italian and French have enough things in common that I could probably make a good semi-fresh start with Italian while leveraging some of my knowledge of French to help me learn Italian, and the plan was to eventually jump over and refresh my knowledge of French, while picking up a new language along the way. Does that make sense?
