Hey everyone, what'cha up to?
@Siron: Time Team isn't aired on the BBC anymore, it's only online on youtube these days, since it ended several years ago
And yeah, I have no idea why they couldn't be Sylvanian Families in the US, too. I am a little jealous that some exclusives are never released in the US, even though the UK gets them. Last winter there were some holiday cakes (toys, not actual cakes) I really wanted, but had no way of buying.
And yes, research and writing for both articles and books (you tend to do both, not just one if you're doing research for history), but I also would like to host a podcast as well.

@koneko: It's pretty cute, but also not a typical anime, since it's about four office workers who are also huge nerds outside of work
But there's only one season out, so I've been watching it a single episode at a time, to make it last longer

@koneko: yes! that's the feeling exactly, and since I know I can't fight the fatigue, I just give in and it's actually really nice
tbh, none of the insomnia strategies are very effective for me, especially when my body is just uncooperative, but I decided to watch an episode of Wotakoi, because it's adorable and makes me laugh

@koneko: no, it's not that kind of pain that painkillers will help, unfortunately. it's discomfort from lying still
I've had some depressive episodes, and it's true that I tended to sleep during them, but this is a warm fuzzy feeling when I lie down and sleep during fatigue episodes, and actually feels really kind of happy and nice
I have a much higher heat tolerance than I used to, too, but there comes a point when an old house with poor air circulation and pretty much no insulation in the roof gets way toooooooo hot

@koneko: yeah. Sometimes it just hurts to lie down, and it's feeling like one of those nights
as weird as it sounds, my favorite thing about when I have a fatigue episode, is that I just relax and go to bed, even though it means I sleep for at least 14 hours straight, drink some water, and then sleep the next couple days as well
(I don't really have a choice not to sleep during a fatigue episode, since I'll pass out if I don't put myself to bed, and that's dangerous)
Now I feel like I'm on the opposite side of that, not that I'm awake and alert, but that it's just uncomfortable enough that it's hard to sleep. I think it would be okay if the house didn't get so hot during the day, and I could really cycle my sleep schedule back until it was normal again, but I'm just running chronically sleep deprived at the moment and it ironically makes it harder to sleep, lol

I haven't gone to bed yet even though it's late. I was hungry and decided to eat a meal since my off kilter sleep schedule has also messed up my eating the past few days

@Siron: There's actually anofficial youtube channel for Time Team now. It's a BBC channel 4 show, but you can watch for free
Calico Critters and Sylvanian Families are the same thing, same company, just renamed for the US releases of them. They're little animal dolls with velvety flocking so they feel soft like they have fur.
I already finished my undergrad degree, and graduated. It's grad school that I haven't applied for yet, because I planned to go abroad for a few years, improve my language skills, add some more languages so I could do better research, and then apply. I haven't been able to do that, though, due to my health. I do already know which schools I want to apply to, but it's been on the back burner while I learned to live with the limitations of my current health. I would rather research and write than primarily teach, and with environmental history as my field, I think perhaps going into environmental policy or a related area will be the direction I'll head. There are also fewer teaching positions for the particular geographic area I'm interested in, so will influence whether I decide to apply for faculty positions or work outside traditional academia.
When it comes to scholarly articles, a lot of them are behind paywalls, and if you're at a university that subscribes to a particular publisher, or have a friend at a university that does, you can access them that way. You can also email authors whose work you're really interested in, but is behind a paywall, and they may send you a copy of an article. But open access articles are less numerous than they should be, given all the public funding that supports a lot of research. I still have access to my school's library, so I can get books that way, but it is limited to what they have in their collections, since I don't think I can request books from other libraries now that I'm an alumnx rather than a current student.
