japanese is a lot easier if you already know chinese so i had that advantage
and french is similar to eng too so yea
slight leg-up on both haha

yeah being in jp definitely helped with spoken japanese a lot
i was translating between jp and chn for my friend too since we met up with some japanese friends
(but translating is tiring rip
