I met a celebrity once, a well known comedian in the UK. He bumped into me (literally) in the train station and didn't even apologise :/

@Quoth the Raven: That sounds like it would be an interesting weakness to include, especially since it would subvert many people's expectations about what sirens actually are available and kind of act as a hook to pull them in. It kind of adds a sadness to them, because there songs inevitably pull in sailors, but then they die. They're helpless really, but villanised by so many stories :/

@Quoth the Raven: that is interesting! I'm gonna have to do some more research there! The challenge was just simply to write a poem about a mythical creature which you could choose from a list provided by the challenge-runner. I was suuuuper close to choosing either phoenix or gorgons :)

@Quoth the Raven: a male siren? That's interesting, I've never read about male sirens before (I don't think). I agree with you about the mythology being entwined, it can be difficult when we have a particular thing we want to portray whilst also worrying if the audience will get it. Incidentally, I just wrote a poem on sirens for a challenge about mythical creatures. @Dipper: I can completely related to what you said about not wanting to reveal certain stories. They feel too private. There are some stories we keep for ourselves. We are, after all, our first and most important audience :D
