@vengeance: while the everage work day is 8 hours, there are lots of companies who demand their employees way more than 8 hours.
I worked in a factory and the people on the floor worked 8 hours during the day, but at least 10 with the night shift.
Everyone above the workers, had to start an hour earlier to get everything ready. We also had to stay longer, to clean up and fill out the paperwork.
On Sunday, I worked from 6 am till 4:30 pm and the rest of that week from 7 am until 5:30. Then the next week was evening and that was Monday till Friday from 5 pm until 4 am (some times even until 6 am).
