OMFG OK SO BHOPAL
WAS A GAS LEAK IN BHOPAL INDIA IN 1984 THAT KILLED ANYWHERE FROM 3,000 TO POTENTIALLY 16,000 PEOPLE!!!!!!
the (american) company in charge of the plant basically let it fall into disrepair and didn't give anyone working the proper information they needed about the gas (MIC)
the tank the gas was stored in was......... comically maintained
which, one thing led to another, and eventually the gas was allowed to come in contact with water, which started a reaction in the tank, which led to the gas escaping
people are STILL being born with defects caused from the gas

The SL-1 nuclear plant accident is the only human error accident that wasn't caused by greed that i can think of right now (NOT SAYING IT IS THE ONYL ONE, JUST THE ONE ON MY MIND)
basically it had hand-operated control rods (LMFAO) and the guy yanked it out four feet instead of the few inches he was supposed to
he died instantaneously, and so did the other two people working at the time, so, we don't know what motivated him to pull it out like he did

bhopal is still the one that makes me angriest
because of the blatant disregard for human life

i mean, my city has a factory that produces an incredibly dangerous gas just outside the city limits
industry is unfathomably important, but human error caused by politically and capitalistically (?) charged motives needs to stop
that's what 99% of industrial accidents are caused by
hey stop me i'm ranting about industrial disasters again

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm no ma lol
but i mean of course ports are always going to have potentially unsafe levels of dangerous things, because it's inefficient to move them in small batches
also beirut's situation was very unique and unlikely to occur again
i say that even though something incredibly similar also happened in cyprus not too long ago
