"....huh?" Darrell asked.

"That I'm really, really sorry...?" he replied.

"I think she knows that." Vincent responded.

"I'm pretty sure he sent Jordan there because, even though he was scared, it was a place he trusted and knew his sister would be relatively safe." he told Desiree.

Darrell just nodded.

"And... and I don't know how I did it." he continued.

"It just... happened. I was scared, and it felt like my sister was... like... be angry and silently picking on me..." he went on.

It was an awkward explanation, but it was as close as a kid could get to, to describe being 'judged'.

Desiree just sighed, heavily.

"Well, at least now you know why I keep my face half hidden." She commented.

"And ... I can speak from experience. How do you think she feels? She would have seen something she'd never seen before. She knows that you won't hurt her, but ... the dark shadow around you due to being vampiric, is something that would likely scare a child. You have to remember, she's only five."

".....huh?" Darrell asked, obviously confused.

"Darrell, remember how you were told that your mother and father each have a special gift that was given to them by their parents?" Vincent asked him.

"Yeah..." Darrell replied.

"And remember how you were told about how you inherited your father's gift?" he asked further.

"...yes..." Darrell replied further, before stopping.

"Wait!" he exclaimed.

"So... so Jordan got...?" he started to ask, before Vincent nodded and smiled.

"Precisely." he confirmed.

Desiree nodded before hooking her hair behind her ear.

"Exactly." She told him.

"She got my eye." She added with a light sigh.

"I know it's uncomfortable, but you'll need to get used to it." She added.

"You know she won't hurt you, right?"

"....yes." he said.

"I'm sorry..." he apologised.

"You reacted on instinct. It's all right." Vincent told him.

"This just means that you'll need to have your father and grandmother help you with controlling your new mana." he said.

"That's all." he smiled.

"I don't think you're in any real trouble." he went on.

"...but I'm not your parent, so..." he then mumbled, trying his best not to overstep any boundaries.

"But you are in some." She added, "however, I will be speaking with your father about it. And don't expect anything extreme, it will likely be a task like dishes for the next week, or something." She paused before chuckling.

Darrell looked guilty, and nodded.

"....ok..." he said.

"Well, then." Vincent commented, packing things up.

"I can see that I'M no longer needed here." he chuckled.

"So I'll just be moseying along." he said further.

"Anything else, while I'm here?" he asked Desiree.

"Or is that all?"

Desiree just shook her head.

"Thank you, Vincent." She said, gratitude in her voice.

"I really do appreciate your help." She added before giving him a hug after he'd gotten to his feet.

"And no. You don't have to hang around any longer. I should be able to take care of my two kids." She added with a light laugh, as she stepped back.

Vincent returned the hug, and smiled with a nod and a chuckle as she stepped back and said what she did.

"All right." he said.

"Bye for now, you two." he told them.

He then disappeared in a small whirlwind, and Darrell looked at his mother.

"Um..." he stammered.

"...Jordan's... Jordan's okay, right?" he asked.

"Like... she's okay?" he repeated, but she knew what he was asking. He wanted to know if she was hurt, or mad, or anything like that.

Desiree just smiled softly.

"She's a little shocked and scared, but I think after she cleans up and you properly apologise to her, all will be good." She told him honestly.

"For now, think about what you want for dinner. I'll ask the same of Jordan once she's clean."

"Hamburgers." he said.

"And fries." he said further.

"That sounds good right now." he told her.

"But.. but whatever Jordan wants is cool." he went on.

"I think... maybe she should get to have whatever she wants..."

About a year later, Darrell was with his sister at a nearby park, while the two of them were just playing around. He was twelve, and she was six, and as close as could be.

"Darrell!" She called. When he looked up, he was smacked with a ball of leaves. It wasn't hard, but it was still a ball of leaves.

It was the middle of autumn, coming up on Halloween.

"Gotcha!" She called before diving behind a tree to hide.

Darrell brushed the leaves away from his face, and chased after her, picking up leaves as he did so.

"I'll get YOU, too!" he declared.

Jaden and Desiree, meanwhile, were sitting at a nearby bench, watching their children.

"Heh." Jaden chuckled.

"So young and full of energy." he said.

"And they're so close. Not many siblings are as close as they are."

"Very true." She agreed.

"It's... honestly, it's something to be jealous of." She admitted.

"I wish I had that connection with my brother."

"He then looked to their children again, before looking off to the side.

"Looks like there's a sweets vendor by the road down there." he told her.

"Want me to see what they have?" he asked.

"See if we can all find something there?" he asked further, as Darrel managed to dump a clump of leaves on Jordan's head.

"I can go with you. Darrell can watch Jordan, and you know it, for a few minutes." She said as she got to her feet.

"It won't be the first time he's watche dher." She added with a chuckle.

"Darrell!" he called out, causing the kids to stop.

"Watch Jordan! Your mother and I are going to check something!" he said.

"Okay!" Darrell called back.

He then looked at his sister, and smiled.

"Hey." he said.

"Rar!" he exclaimed, faking a pounce towards her.

Jordan let out a cry of surprise, that was mixed with a laugh, as her brother pounced on her.

As desiree and Jaden walked off, she paused a moment when she thought she saw something to the side. When she paused and looked though, she paused.

She could have sworn that she saw something, a group of people perhaps. They were gone as soon as she looked though.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

"...nothing. Thought I saw something." Desiree replied.

Meanwhile, Darrell thought for a moment.

"Hey!" he said to his sister.

"Wanna play hide-n-seek?" he asked.

"I'll hide and you look for me!"

What the hell was that? Desiree wondered before sighing. There was nothing that she really could do, aside from brush it off or uncover her eye, but she really didn't want to do the latter. She had something in the pit of her stomach though, saying that she really should.

"Go hide then!"
