I did. :3 Found the very first one of the day.
oh, now that's cool! :3 I assume all the crystals at this mine are the quartz crystals and not more expensive or rare crystals...??
It's all calcite and if you're really lucky maybe a fossil.
Yep. We were told that we were the best he's had in a while. Apparently most people show up for like half an hour then give up and leave. We were there from 10:30am to 6pm.
I can imagine that a lot of people are unaccustomed and unwilling to that kind of labor and that they do give up pretty easily... "oh, let's go for the kids" kind of thing ... then the kids get bored at the combination of work and not finding anything immediately.
I'm glad you had so much fun being a "miner" for the day! XD <3

A family did show up and tried to steal my friend's find. Then the kids got bored and bit by ants. So they left.
Really? Somebody came by and tried to take over/steal your friend's find? That's pretty horrible manners (among other things), IMO
Yeah. She got excited when my friend said what she had found, and decided that her husband will help us so that she can give some of it to her kids.
lol! Opportunistic much? ...I'm sure they were expecting something like "Oh, how nice of you to try to help me" in response to the husband's "helping". I assume you guys told them to get lost...
No, we just waited them out. They gave up helping because it was too hard, and got bored.
Oh! That's an interesting tactic! ... and it probably worked better than my instinctual "get lost" approach! XD
They thought my friend and I were professionals. Because we were dressed for the work and the weather, and had all the tools we were going to need. All they had was nothing and wearing tourist clothes. With some bug spray.
Funnily enough. My friend and I never once got bit by ants. Like we had them getting on us and disturbed a colony or two. No bites.

ROFL - that's pretty funny! ... like, all of it is funny!
I have to admit though, the ants would probably drive me off sooner than I would probably go otherwise... I don't react well to them (especially these stupid red ants)

I've been bitten plenty of times and don't really care anymore. Lol
I had researched this trip thoroughly and knew what we were going to need and what to expect.

LOL - yeah... my body definitely notices when I've been bitten by these ants. :/
It sounds like your research paid off - big time! It sounds like you had to bring your own tools? Is that normal? Or did you just bring extra tools??

Well the articles I read said to bring your own tools, and the person I spoke to on the phone said the same thing. But they did provide some pickaxes and a few other things.
I'm sure they pretty much have to have at least a few tools available to lend the unprepared tourists...
Yep. My right hand can barely hold anything right now from using the pickaxe all day.
LOL - yeah, it's a different motion than what most of us do most of the time. How's your arm? Your back? I'd be surprised if you weren't at least a little sore...
