"Fighting or Survival? Yeah." Callie answered with a nod.

"My father had me in things for archery, hand to hand, and rockclimbing, among other things, from a very young age." She told him with a shrug.

"He never told me if there was a specific reason as to why... literally just aht he wanted to make sure that I Was prepared for 'anything' that the future may hold." She paused a moment before shrugging.

"Pretty sure I could ID most flora for whether or not they are food or not, too." She added. Well, she could identify when at home, in the world she knew. She wasn't so sure there, of course.

Adym was stunned for a moment.

'...well, THAT helps matters. A LOT.' he thought.

"Huh. All right then." he said.

"This way." he told her.

The two of them then made their way to a room with three large cabinets in it. He went to one, and opened it, revealing 6 bows that looked to be exquisitely crafted, and looked like they would certainly get the job done, to understate it. Some were smaller, some were larger, some looked mid-size.

"Hmm." Adym mumbled.

"Which one... which one...?" he wondered, looking through them.

Callie looked the bows over before pausing.

". . . Not sure why you're debating it so much." She commented, her tone almost curious.

"Going by your height, you'd probably want a longbow. Plus the fact that elves tend to prefer them, at least in media."

"I mean... well... you're not wrong." he admitted.

"All right." he said.

Callie looked them over before pointing to one of the mid range sized bows.

"Very similar to the one that I was using less than a month ago." She commented.

"If it's all right, and you don' thave any special attachment to it, of course. I would hate to be using something you hold dear and potentiually sullying it."

Adym just rolled his eyes.

"Oh, please." he said.

"Sullying it? I'm a Wood Elf. Not a High Elf." he muttered.

"...or a Dark Elf, for that matter..." he added, before pausing and shaking his head.

"Ah... never mind that." he said.

"ANYWAY!" he quickly went on, grabbing a bow for himself, and the one she wanted.

"Now to get quivers, arrows, and a small blade or two."

Callie paused.

"I... wasn't even referring to the fact that you're elven." She paused before saying what he was. She wanted t o say that he 'claimed' to be elven, but managed to bite that back.

"I was referring to the fact that everyonehas memories." She added. "The last thing I'd like to do is use something that has sentimental value, that is then spoiled because some stranger used it."

"I try my best not to grow attached to physical belongings." Adym replied.

"...try." he then clarified.

"I fail sometimes." he admitted.

"See that one that's far too small for either of us?" he asked.

"My mother and father gave it to me when I was a child. It has sentimental value. But the others are mostly just there because they serve different purposes." he explained further.

"Anyway, we need ammo and such." he went on.

"And we'll hitch a ride to the forest. Or as close as they'll take us, anyway."

"I can completely understand not being attached to items." Callie commented. "But it is difficult, most certainly." She paused a moment before seeming to think about it.

"And hitching a ride dows sound like a good idea." She agreed. "How far are we travelling?" He could tell there was just curiosity in her voice. She only wanted to know for the sake of knowing.

"Also, what kind of ground? I may need to try and make some alterations to my shoes, depending on the ground we will be traversing."

"The ride will take about an hour." Adym responded.

"And... the ground?" he asked.

"Hm." he mumbled.

"Well, mostly soft." he said.

"It's a forest." he told her.

"And not one with many paths, sadly." he went on.

"So the ground will be uneven and soft."

". . . Well, I think my shoes will survive that well enough." She commented before looking to ADym.

"And that is good, but I meant the travelling overall. How far?" She asked. "If you happen to have an estimation."

"Oh, geez." Adym muttered.

"That is REALLY hard to say." he told her.

"The forest is... well... enchanted." he said.

"It likes to send travellers in circles and make them lost." he continued.

"But I should be able to tell the difference... it IS my home, after all." he chuckled.

"But I would say we have... a good 30+ miles ahead of us."

"Oh that's fun." She commented.

"Here's hoping you actually can navigate it well enough." She added.

"Do you want to head out tonight, or take the time to make sure we're good? And what about supplies? Should we take rations?"

"The assistant seemed to have some urgency in her tone." he told her.

"Part of me thinks that means there's trouble." he said.

"...." he was then silent, before sighing.

"...I wonder if they're all right..." he muttered.

"I hope the village wasn't attacked or anything..."

"well, all we can do is go and see if we can help, then." She then said simply.

"I'm with you though. I do hope that it isn't a case of an attack. However, there's nothing that anyone can do." She then added.

"Is there anything that you want to do before we head out, then?"

Adym thought for a moment, seemingly going through a checklist in his mind.

"Hmmmmm." he mumbled.

"I... hm." he repeated.

He then snapped his fingers.

"Ah!" he exclaimed.

"I need to grab each of us a backpack for some clothes." he told her.

"...and we'll need to stop by someplace to actually get you some clothing." he then said.

"At least one change of clothing, and something to sleep in." he went on.

"And some small snacks to bring with us." he finished.

"...oh, and I need to make sure my backyard will be all right while I'm away." he tacked on at the end.

"That makes sense." She said after a moment or two.

Sure enough, about two hours later, they were just outside of the forest, standing right at the edge. Callie was looking on in awe, taking in the spledor of it, but Adym was looking on in concern.

There was something going on in there, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it while out of the trees

Adym was silent and bit his lip slightly.

".....mm." he mumbled.

'Something's wrong.' he thought.

'I can sense it.' he continued.

'This... this doesn't feel right.' he went on, before shaking his head.

"Right then." he said.

"Come on, Callie." he told her.

"Let's try and get as much distance as we can, behind us."

Callie was perceptive. She noticed Adym's concern, despite it not being overly obvious.

"Sounds good. Lead the way then, Adym. You know this place better than I." She said simply, wanting to inquire about him, but also knowing that it may not be the best idea to for the moment.

As they stepped past the external ring of trees, the darkness that could be - barely - detected... By both of them.

Callie paused after a couple paces before looking around.

"... Something about the air is... Odd... In here. Is that how it normally is?" She asked Adym curiously.

"The forest... the forest feels like it's... there's a darkness here." he went on, looking around.

"I can feel it permeating all around." he continued.

'...which is the problem.' he then thought.
