Yes, the save feature has been erroring for most people apparently.

Yes, it was helpful getting me started with all the items.
As I understand it, we need 6 of each crafting material. So 2 is pretty helpful.

I usually just have music as my background noise, so I don't need to see it. :3

Vreg's game gives 2 of each crafting item. But you can only win one time.
I found that out after playing a second time and getting nothing. >.<
