Jason carried Birch's cage with him as they walked down the corridor chatting and out on to the platform. There he opened the cage door and the let the owl fly off to stretch its wings after the long ride. He just waved off her comments about his marks with an embarrassed grin. He didn't really like to admit that he was good at his schoolwork. It was a very un-slytherin like thing to try to have top marks in all the classes he could. Or at least so his friends said. "I don't think they'll miss me if I wait until the feast to sit with them. We'll be going mostly our separate ways soon after all with the house cup starting up soon. " Besides, it was nice being with her. No judgments, as they walked down the platform to the carriages, the castle looming out of the darkness ahead of them across the lake.

Taking a deep breath he could already smell the scent of cold on the air. He didn't particularly like snow other than how pretty it was but he loved the smell of it. That sharp crisp, almost sweet smell. It was nice to pretend still for just a little bit longer that there were no worries in the world. That all the jostling bodies around them were just strangers that he wouldn't have to face in just a few minutes time. He climbed into a carriage and held his hand out to help her up, ignoring the thestrals up front even though a shiver ran down his spine at the great bony creatures. "I've heard that fifth year is the hardest because of the OWLs, so we may not get much time together at all. Might as well get it while we can right?"
