One Day Ago...

'Twas the night before Solstice, when all through Vreg's house, a creature was stirring. A rat, not a mouse. A package was left on the step with great care, as Eugene squeaked urgently for Vreg to beware. But this warning did not register through Vregory's mind, as he thought it was merely a gift, how kind!

Inside was a letter, penned finely in ink. The contents forced Vreg to stop and think. (It also gave your beloved narrator time, to sigh in relief as I don't need to rhyme.)

"Dear decrepit Rat King,

It is I, your archnemesis! I of course need no introduction for you surely recognize this writing."

Vregory stared into space as he tried to recall, but he did not recognize this writing at all.

"My, ahem, many powerful sources have indicated your face expresses confusion! Then I shall do you this one favor and remind you of your most nefarious enemy: VK! Do not forget again, or... something of devastating magnitude will most definitely befall you.

What's that, Mich? Wrap it up? Erm, yes, of course! Villains must be swift, malicious. THEN, Rat King! Listen- well, read good! You shall receive twelve gifts from me in the coming days, and they will be your undoing."

Only half understanding, Vreg gave a smile and a wink. Twelve gifts coming his way? Too exciting to think!

Day 11:Everyone is eyeballing Vreg confused on why he had to run away and returned with a giant barrel.
Their judgmental gazes making him increasingly nervous, Vreg begins mumbling his lines shakily,
as he attempts to set a fire to the inside of the barrel.

On….tenth..no...eleventh..day of...today...Pans and lassy... gave me: …....what she give me? Only got VK gift?

Eugene buried himself in Vreg's hair to keep warm. A sympathetic pat on the shoulder from Vyctor only furthering Vregs confusion.
Frizz is devastated Vreg didn't practice his lines. Her tangent soon interrupted by an ecstatic Velvet cheering out and
being the first to graciously warm her hands by the fire. Everyone huddles and gathers in a jovial laugh and eventually Frizz
lets out a surrendering sigh and is also appreciative for Vreg's efforts in helping them all be comfortable.

Hey diary,

It’s me, Mesa, like always. So remember how I was going on and on about Tiff’s Uber-Fun Holiday Sleepover?! It was going really great at first! We had s’mores, decorated cookies, played games, and drank lots of sparkling juice! (Tiff almost peed herself LOL!) So much fun! ...but all before 10:30.

And now?!! I’m the only one awake! And it’s not even midnight!!!!

I mean, it’s a sleepover—like, this is unheard of! There are 11 kids here (Janie had to go home early cause her mom’s protective) and they’re ALL asleep!

I get it, it gets kinda cold in Tiff’s family room at night, and it’s a lot more comfy to get under the blankets, but we could’ve like played another game or watched a movie! You know? Something! I was looking forward to a midnight snack with everybody! D:

And cause it’s so hard for me to fall asleep at night, I’m legitim legit just laying here! Watching everybody else sleep! And writing in this dumb diary! (Sorry you’re not dumb, I’m just mad!!)

Ren’s snoring right next to me, no lie. I’m about to go crazy cause they just rolled toward me, so all the snoring is right in my ear. How are they sleeping so. hard. that they can’t hear themselves snoring like this?

Okay, now they’re drooling…… That’s it, I’m moving! Hopefully I’ll be able to fall asleep just like everyone else. UGH. If I don’t have a good dream, I’m just gonna give up.

PROMPT: CONTINUED...



Virgil finally comes back into view carrying a single large box. It's a simple container but adorned with Joyful Jamboree colors. You wonder just how far he went or what exactly he's done for this "prize," but realize that your curiosity's about to be sated.

"Oh, Virgil's back!" Vreg announces to anyone listening as he rushes up to the artist, eager to see what he has in store. He's like an energetic puppy as Virgil takes his time setting the box down on the ground. He's eager to see what's inside of it and as the artist opens it, you spot Vreg trying to peek inside from over his shoulder, around his side, and from any other angle possible. "Am very excited to see what Virgil made!"

"Yeah, I'm sure. Look, it's nothing special," he takes out one of the items tucked safely inside the box and you can see what appears to be a crown of some sort? "See? Just something that fits you." Even as the artist tries to downplay it, or genuinely believes it as is likely the case, Vreg's eyes are alight with joy.

"Is so nice," Vreg nods happily once he is crowned by Virgil, and the artist takes a moment to push up his glasses as if analyzing the look. "Thank!" The rat king throws his arms around the artist in a sudden hug which... Virgil returns with more of a pat on the back and a glance aside.

"Yeah... but Vreg? We've gone over this." He says simply, and the rat king practically leaps back at the realization that he hasn't yet showered for a while.

"Anyway, made you guys a thing or two for helping him," he kicks over the box with a shrug. "Knock yourselves out."

Congratulations all participants! For your hard work and dedication, you all receive a part of the treasure...
