Madison accepted the bottle.

"Merci." She said after a moment or two.

"And all right. I'll keep an ear out." She added. "I'm going to mark down all I can before then."

"I think I"m making good progress." After he'd walked off, she was still puzzling over what it is that she had felt.

That... that really didn't feel... right... what the fuck was THAT!? she half screamed mentally before taking a breath to try and calm herself down and getting back to copying the runes down.

Sure enough, about an hour later, Vincent located her.

"Madison!" he called out.

"Come on, we're meeting up and grabbing something to eat, as well as discussing our findings." he told her.

"How has it been going?" he asked.

"The party's noticed you've been taking diligent notes." he continued.

"Did you find anything especially noteworthy, or special?" he asked.

As he asked this, he looked at the runs again, scratching at his chin.

'Seems bringing Madison here was a much better idea than I had previously thought.' he told himself mentally.

Madison nodded.

"Yeah, I have been." She commented before handing the notebook to him.

"Here, take a look." She then said.

"Those are all the runes and rough positionings, or distances between them, around the base." She paused a moment ebfroe sighing.

". . . or at least that one panel I was able to look at. I certainly couldn't get entirely around the pyramid."

"...." Vincent was silent as he looked at what she wrote.

"Hmmm." he mumbled.

"I see." he said.

"Yes, that would be a task." he agreed.

"But this is already helpful. Quite so." he continued.

"You really know your stuff."

"I..." Madison started before sighing lightly.

"I live with a pair of necromancers." She then said.

"How can I not know my stuff?" She asked with a shrug.

"Anyhow. I do hope that proves useful."

"Yes, yes, indeed." Vincent agreed.

"Aimee and Alex are truly amazing." he said further.

"I should know, I've watched them grow up into the fine adults they are." he chuckled.

"Regardless, let's all head back to the base tent." he suggested.

"Grab something to eat." he finished.

In the back of his mind, something was still nagging at him. Something about Madison was... off. Something was... strange. But he didn't know WHAT, exactly. He just couldn't place it. And he didn't want to say something so vague and potentially concerning.

So he ignored it again, though he wondered how long he'd be able to.

It didn't take long before they managed to get into the pyramid. Madison and Vincent were part of the first team to go in there.

For the first bit, everything was going well. The mental questions regarding Madison hadn't crossed Vincent's mind, at all.

One of the many expiditions into the pyramid though, had Madison and Vincent split off from the other two as they were all checking a rather large room. They were on one side, while the others were on the other side of the room.

All was going well, until Samuel stepped on a tile that caused several tiles, the runes that no one could see on there originally, lit up with mana.

"The hell!?" Michelle exclaimed, her voice surprised and concerned.

At about the same time as Vincent though, a few seconds after that, she felt something. She didn't know what at first, but something.

Even Madison was feeling it.

The teen laid a hand on her chest and looked to the runes.

'. .. mana drain." She said simply, recognizing the shape, the rune, that wasmade.

". . . a necromatic one.. it's going to attack the mana of the soul."

"........" Vincent was silent for a moment.

"Oh dear." he said.

"That... that will be troublesome." he muttered.

"For myself and Michelle." he went on.

He then shook his head and looked at Madison.

"We need to either find a way to shut this down, or flee immediately."

"I'll say." Madison commented.

"I'll try and disrupt it." She then said before pulling her pen out of her hair and making her way to one of the lit up tiles. She crouched down and tried to get a read on them as Michelle just bit her lip before starting to turn back to the various markings on the walls.

And none of them were finding anything. Even Madison's attempts to disrupt the rune were ending in failure.

"Dammit! Vincent, should we just get out of here and let non-mages tackle it?" Michelle asked, starting to sound a bit on the rough side.

"...I think... we should..." he said.

"You two need to leave." Samuel told them.

"This place is extremely dangerous for the both of you." he reasoned.

Vincent was silent, before leaning against the wall slightly.

"Michelle." he said to the woman there.

"How are you faring?" he asked her.

"Starting to feel very much on the drained side fo things. I'm sure you're fine, as you have a stupidly large mana pool." Michelle answered.

"Me? I am not faring quite the best." She added with a sigh.

"I didn't expect a mana trap though." She admitted as she looked to the rune again.

"Vincent, let's get out of here. Sam, Madison, don't stay in here too long." She finished with, with a light sigh.

"Indeed." he said.

"Be careful, you two." Samuel told them.

"And you as well." Vincent responded.

"Let's go." he said to Michelle, before they left.

"...hm." Samuel mumbled.

"I daresay this may be a sign that this is, indeed, the place we suspected." he told Madison.

"After all, such a trap is the sign of a paranoid pharaoh, as no other pharaohs seem to have created such defensive measures." he reasoned.

After they'd left, Madison just sighed.

"I'd recommend the pair of us leaving too, but since we're ..."? She paused a moment before sighing. "Since we're without mana, we should probably see if we can fix this little issue first."

"Or do you think others would be better suited to do it? Obviously no mages of any sort." She asked, her voice curious.

Samuel was silent for a moment.

"You make valid points on both." he told her.

"However, it seems like we are perfectly safe here for now." he said.

"It really does seem like the trap does not affect us." he continued.

"And I will be honest with you, this merely spurs me on to go further in." he then admitted to her.

"What say you?" he asked.

"If you feel uncomfortable, we can certainly make a tactical retreat for now."

For now. Madison thought before nodding.

"I'm completely game for trying to figuring out if we can stop this drain." She commented.

"Not sure if we shoudl venture farther though. If this doesn't get fixed, then half the team can't even come in here." She added.

"The problem though... is I may be versed in runes and the like, but I have no idea where the hell to start for something of this scale."

"Do an initial scan of it." he told her.

"If you feel you can make a breakthrough, we can stay for a while." he said.

"If it seems like you're getting nowhere, we'll leave and let a larger team come in to deal with this." he went on.

"I'll give you 10 minutes. Should be a decent enough time." he continued.

"Agreed?" he asked.

Madison nodded.

":Yeah, of course." She agreed.

As she was looking, she was feeling something continuously pulling at the locks around her.

The hell? She wondered, but it was easy enough for her to ignore it, for now at least. She was feeling... off because of it, not quite right, but at least she was all right.

At the ten minute mark, she sighed before getting to her feet.

"Hey. I think I figured out the path for it?" She asked, knowing he couldn't actually answer that, "But I agree we should pass it on to the next team. I'm sure Vincent and Michelle have made sure that the others are aware of what is going on."

Samuel looked at her, and nodded.

"Very well." he replied.

"Let's go." he said.

With that, the two of them made their way back outside, where a small team was waiting for them.

"Dr. Rossen! Ms. Kiczys!" one addressed them.

"Are you all right?" they asked.

"Perfectly fine, myself." Samuel responded.

"Yeah, I'm all right." She answered.

"But! I did find a starting point for how to potentially handle that drain in there." She added. "It seems to be a mix of necromancy and arcane mana for the rune."

"Sadly, that means I don't know exactly how to handle it." She added before sighing lightly.

"But, at least I figured out a potential starting point?"

"That is excellent news." they responded.

"Let Madison rest for a bit." Samuel told them. "After, she might be instrumental in dealing with that bothersome trap. Take her with you." he suggested.

"Yes, Dr. Rossen." the man replied.

"Madison." Samuel then addressed her.

"Come." he said.

"Let's see how Vincent and Dr. Kenzey are doing." he told her, concern laced in his tone.

"Hopefully they weren't suffering the ill effects for too long."
