Once he was awake, Serenity sat back on her heels, her hands in her lap.

"What happened to you? Your subconscious is still a bit of a mess." She commented after a moment or two.

"Even if you don't really notice it... it is there. There are cracks seemingly everywhere." She then said. "... although that's pretty amazing that you're able to realise anything really."

"........." Chris was silent, before sighing once more and looking forward, as though staring into space.

"I screwed up. Big time." he told her.

He then bit his lip, and regaled to Serenity what he had attempted to do. What had happened, what went wrong, how Vanessa had reacted, what she had done in response, and the image that haunted his subconscious.

"...now I know what it means." he said quietly.

"It means... she never loved me." he went on, a few tears streaming down his cheeks. "She never loved me, never would. No matter what I did for her, no matter how hard I tried... it would never be enough for her to see me as little more than a tool." he went on, before gritting his teeth together.

"I'm a fool. A complete and utter fool." he said.

"What do I have to live for now? What is there left for me?" he asked aloud, mostly rhetorically.

Serenity was silent as she listened to all that was said. She didn't know what to say for the first few seconds after he'd finished, before sighing.

"Christopher, I don't like you." She started. "You know that, and I'm reasonably certain you've know that for the better part of your life." She was speaking more as she would were she not in the doll, compared to as she would for the role of the doll. It was a little jarring.

"But no one deserves to be thrown away like that." She then said before pausing.

"..... But... I can understand why she reacted as she did. Christopher, you killed her. That will kill her with time, I'm not sure when, but she is dying because of it."

"As for what is there to live for now? I can't answer that. No one aside from you, can."

"...my entire life has been being used." Chris responded, speaking far more candidly that even Serenity could have expected.

"Even my sisters used me for my mana when I was younger... I guess I thought that that's what love was. At least, when it was shown to me." he went on.

"...damn it." he then cursed quietly.

"I... just... I never thought it would take something like this to make me see the truth." he told her.

"I never thought I would be the reason for her death." he mumbled further.

".......I've done horrible things in my life." he suddenly said out of nowhere.

"I'm reasonably sure that Hell is what my future holds." he went on.

"...is there any way I can even begin to try and make up for the horrors I've helped bring upon everyone?" he then asked Serenity... and she could tell that he was actually sincere in his question.

Serenity was silent as he said what he did before smiling softly.

"There... maybe a way to start, at least." She told him.

"I don't know much about where people go in the afterlife, as that isn't part of my job description." she continued, "But... one thing you can do that will most certainly help put you in a nicer light... is to help them find Vanessa."

"She may be going to die soon, but I am quite certain she is aware of it." She then said. "Meaning she'll have things in place to continue the hell she's been bringing upon on the planet after she's gone." She paused here before sighing, she was talking about her own daughter, after all.

"Just... help them find her. Make it that someone can stop whatever it is that is going to happen, from happening." She paused, again. Thinking.

"Also... don't mention about how she's going to die. I ... think that there are a few people who would rush in if they knew. ... and that would not be good."

"Sure." he replied.

He then paused briefly, and was silent.

"I just... need to remember." he said.

"Which is to say, I can picture WHERE it is, I just need to... keep expanding outwards until I know where that place IS." he reasoned.

"She's... extremely careful with security, to put it one way..." he mumbled.

'I know she is." Serenity commented with a light sigh.

"I raised her, of course I know." She then said.

"If there is anything I can do to help, let me know." She added before smiling softly.

"And Chris... now you have a chance to find out who you are. Not find out what kind of pet you are, but... who you are in your core." She todl him. "Please don't squander it. It's not often one is granted a chance like this."

"I know." he replied.

"I know." he said, before starting to think.

"I just need to probe my memories." he told her.

"I need to think. Think about the area. Think about what surrounds it." he went on.

"Because that barrier is still technically in effect." he continued. "It's just that she, herself, IS the barrier." he muttered.

"Not even Miss Terra herself will be able to locate that place."

Serenity paused, a bit surprised.

"That...." She started before sighing.

"That's a bit surprising, actually." she admitted after a second or two. "And it will make finding her a bit of a pain, yes."

". . . If you can help, that would be wonderful. If you can't, as I said... from the sounds of it she'll be dead within a few months anyway. Barrier should maybe go with her... and then someone can go in and try and fix whatever mess was left."

"...yeah. Yeah, she'll have plans to continue on her work." he went on.

"If she can be found, it can hopefully be stopped."

Serenity nodded before crawling off of the bed.

"Now, come. I'm... reasonably sure that Gaea wants her bed back." She commented, soudning much smaller from where she stood. Made sense though, she wasn't very tall in that form.

"You should speak to the one in charge here, as well." She added. "I'll direct you up there."

"Right." he said.

"Okay." he told her.

With that, the two of them left the room, and saw Terra sitting where she was.

"......thank you." Chris said to her.

"Thanks to you... I'm... I'm free." he told her.

"It's more than one such as me deserves."

Terra was sitting on the couch in there and just smiled softly.

"Every living being deserves a chance to redeem themselves." She stated, her voice calm and kind.

"You never deserved to have the shit happen to you tha thas." She continued. "So I'm happy to have made it that you are able to finally be who you are, and who you actually were meant to be. Once you discover who that is, of course." She then said.

"Regardless, I assume you two are heading off for something."

"Yes. We're off to see Sharp." Serenity told her.

"Ahh, right. You two head off. Me, I'm going to get some sleep." Terra said with a sigh, which made Serenity snap her fingers.

"ah! Right. " The doll said.

"Chris, have a seat, I will join you in a moment, I need to help Gaea with something first." She said.

"Right." he said.

He then sat down and watched as the two of them disappeared into the other room, before thinking about things.

"...who I am..." he mumbled.

"Who AM I?" he then asked himself.

'...was I ever allowed to be who I am? Or was?' he then thought, before leaning forward and grasping at his hair.

"Ngh." he grunted.

"I'll think on that later. I need to remember where Mis-" he started to say, before catching himself. "....Vanessa is."

"Ah." he said.

"Yes." he replied.

"Yes, I am." he told her.

"Let's go." he said further, standing up... and looking at her.

"Um... I realise this might be an insult, but... do you want a lift there?" he asked her.

"As in, do you want me to carry you?"

Chris merely nodded and picked her up, being more gentle than one would think of him.

With that, he carried her to Sharp's office, only going inside when he was beckoned to.

Once he did, Hal looked at the two of them, and raised an eyebrow.

"Welcome back." he said to Serenity.

"....are you feeling clear-headed now?" he then asked Chris.

"More than ever in my life." Chris responded.

"And... for the record, I think she was right." She added.

"About Chris." She didn't specify what, exactly, as she didn't want to give Chris an opening to fake it.

"Huh?" he muttered.

"Never you mind." Hal responded.

"...k." was all Chris said in response, with a shrug.

"I am trying to." Chris said. "I just need to think back into my memories." he added.
