Azazel just sighed.

"Damn." he said.

"That's... impressive." he commented.

"I guess he REALLY doesn't want it known." he said further.

"I'm sure he'll open up soon enough, though." he went on.

"Hope so, anyway..." he mumbled.

"Other than that, how's he been?" he asked her.

"I really hope he does too." Rylie agreed before pausing.

"He's been... honestly, a relief. Gotten me out of a few scraps." She admitted.

"and that's part of the reason why we're here. I have some news for you, but let's feed him first." She added with a light laugh.

Azazel nodded in response.

"Got it." he said.

"I'll go and get it now." he commented.

Then, they felt a massive pulse of mana throughout the building.

The entire building.

And then nothing.

"What the...?" Azazel muttered.

"What was..." he started to ask, before the entire building was covered.

In runes. Ominous runes.

And they made Azazel almost freeze in place.

"Rylie!?" he exclaimed, looking at his friend.

When he looked to her, Azazel was able to see the runic effect in the sense of her being frozen in place, but went farther than that.

As she was essentially just a spirit, with more to it of course, there was a far more alarming part.

He could see the rune crawling, quickly, across her face, from starting below the material. It was alarmingly fast, and he could lamost see her flicker out of existence for a moment, as well.

"RYLIE!" he shouted, looking around.

He noticed the patrons were all frozen as well... and he could almost SEE their souls starting to separate from their bodies...

...before the runes all just vanished, as quickly as they came, and the patrons fell unconscious.

'What in the HELL...?' he thought, before shaking his head.

"Rylie!" he exclaimed.

"Rylie, you okay!?" he asked his friend.

Rylie dropped to her hands and knees, trembling, flickering slightly.

". . . Az..." She started after a few seconds, her voice still not quite 'solid', so to speak.

". . . . . that... that wasn't what I think it was, was it?" She asked as she started to get to her feet. Her movements were slow, deliberate, almost as if she was a bit concerned about how well she was able to stay on her feet for the moment - or the plane.

"...it was." Azazel confirmed.

"That... that was the soul-stealing rune." he said.

"Rowena Fyrane's rune." he commented.

"...but..." he then mumbled, thinking about it.

"This... no, this was different. This coated the entire building. Her's are targeted to specific individuals." he went on.

"And last I heard, she was on the other side of the continent. Raging and rampaging elsewhere. She might come through again, but she hasn't been HERE in... oh geez, years." he then said further.

"But that was Fyrane mana, no mistake."

Rylie was silent before pausing.

"Ashley!" She exclaimed before just turning and heading off, quickly, toward the stairs up. She didn't know what she'd find up there where Ash was, but she hoped he would be all right. For all she knew... he could be in trouble, and there was no way for her to know without getting up there.

She barged into the room, quickly, concernedly, and hurried over to Ash's form on the floor.

"Ashley! Dammit, are you all right?" She asked as she saw he was conscious. The concern was evident in her voice, too.

Ashley was on his hands and knees, and just staring at the floor.

He was silent... or seemed it, at least... until she heard something.

It sounded like... quiet sobbing.

Which is when she noticed little droplets of water falling to the floor from where his face was.

He was crying.

"No..." he said quietly.

"No. I did it again." he whispered.

"I did a bad thing. I didn't mean to." he went on, looking at her, with a tear-stained face.

"I'm sorry... I'm sorry..." he repeated.

"Please. I didn't mean to..."

Rylie was taken aback by what she saw, before making her way over and kneeling next to him.

"Hey... hey Ash, it's ok." She said, her voice kind, calm. If he was expecting harshness from anyone, then it would likely be more than a little surprising.

"Ash, it's ok." She repeated with a soft smile. "I don't think anyone was hurt." She added as she laid a hand on his back, rubbing it a bit.

"But... what happened?"

Ash was silent once again for a moment, before latching onto her.

"I.. I..." he stammered.

"I just know there was more mana in me." he said.

"And I couldn't control it." he went on.

"It.. it all just came out, making the runes." he continued.

"I'm sorry!" he apologised again.

"I know I'm bad, but I can be better! I can be good, I promise!"

Rylie was silent as she just wrapped her arms around Ash before lighting him. She got to her feet, with him scooped up in her arms, before making her way to the bed and sitting down with him on it.

"Hey... Ash... it's ok." She tried to assure him.

"I'm not mad at you." She then said.

"You're not in trouble." She added.

"But... that rune was you?" She asked, her voice curious, surprised. There was no ire or anythign to her voice or her words though.

"That was me." he said.

"I can do that. But it's bad." he went on.

"The rune is bad. It's evil." he continued.

"I don't want to be able to do it... I want it to go away..." he sobbed.

"...but it won't..." he whispered.

"It came back again..."

Rylie just sighed, but wasn't going to bring up the fact that she knew who he was now. She realised that it ... might not be the best idea for the moment.

"Just means you need to practice with it, and learn how to probably control it." She told him simply, and plainly.

"And you will learn to control it. You can't hide and suppress it. It will come out again." She then said.

"But way. Back up. More mana?" She then asked after a moment or two.

Ash seemed to have calmed down a bit, before sighing.

"Yes." he said.

"More mana." he told her.

"I have more in me now." he went on.

"And it's strong." he continued.

"I feel it. I feel stronger. Like the fire I can make will be hotter." he went on.

"And that I can make more. Make it larger, make it more potent and concentrated."

". . . That's.. odd. Your mana matured last winter." Rylie commented. If he were to look at her, he could see that she was a bit puzzled, trying to figure out the cause of him having a mana boost.

"Regardless, you're all right?" She asked.

"Because that's the important thing." She added.

He nodded.

"Y-yeah." he said.

He then paused for a moment, and his eyes widened in horror.

"How far did it spread!?" he asked.

"Did I hurt anyone!?" he asked her.

"Wait, what about other people in the building? What about Mr. Azazel!?" he exclaimed.

It was clear he was starting to panic at the thought of the rune actually doing what it was 'meant' to do.

"As far as I know, it wasn't nearly long enough for any 'true' effects." She then said.

"And Az is... largely uneffected by it." She then added. "Don't worry. No harm done."

"......" Ash was silent for a moment.

"Okay." he replied.

He then looked at Rylie, and sighed heavily.

"I hurt you though, didn't I?" he asked.

"I can see it." he said.

"I can see the remnants... the echoes of it... on you." he continued, looking away.

He then bit his lip, and looked angry with himself.

"Damn it all." he cursed.

"Maybe I really AM destined to be evil..."

"I'm... basically nothing more than a fancy spirit. Not surprised you can see it still." Rylie admitted after a moment or two before smiling softly and resting a hand on his cheek.

"Hey, there's absolutely nothing wrong with what you did. You can learn to control it. If anything, we've learned that that's exactly what you need to do." She told him.

"You want to stop this from happening again, right?"
