You could just pick up the food for the day or the night. That would encourage energy burning at the time you want (play/exercise). But I've found morning and evening for about an hour works out well, from when I had cats.
The pixies and orbs aren't part of the style. But.... I might add them they look super cool. Add my text where it says 'dice game #2'.

Once he gets the idea of a schedule, he'll be fine, I'm sure. Most cats I know are active as hell either at night, or during morning and evening. It's a natural circadian rhythm.

What's AoE stand for? I'm only familiar with Area of Effect but that doesn't seem like it would be applicable.

It's a trick. He might be hungry, but he's not as hungry as he's acting (unless he's been out and about all night or is still on medication). He just knows certain behaviors get him certain things, which reinforces it.
