I say if you ain't got the money, you ain't got the money. "Not my baby" may not be the friendliest way to word it, but I don't think you should feel obligated to spend money you don't have on things you didn't ask to be involved in. Especially if you're bringing food, no reason anyone should say anything. Give 'em the ol' "Sorry, money's really tight this year. I'm sure you know how it is" if they start looking at you all expectantly.

@Jolly: I haven't read mine in a long time, but sometimes they're nice to have. I think at least some of them have merit as predictors. And if nothing else, setting the right mindset is as good a reason to read them as any!

Diaper party?? First I misread the title as "dinner party", seemed right, then did a double take. What in the sam hill is a diaper party?

Yeah, I remember really struggling with it in the past. I still miss out on events sometimes just due to timing, but at least this way, as long as I'm able to show up and participate for a day or two, I can usually get everything.

@Jolly: Green bean casserole is a must-have. Last year we got one premade at the store and it was OK, but this time I'd much rather make it myself.
Here's hoping next year we both have more cash on hand!
