@koah: I honestly don't really watch anime or read manga (nothing against it, just outside of my experience). I think my friends were happy because they've always been trying to get my short attention span to watch anime for more than five minutes with them. XD But yeah, I would consider reading/watching more One Piece because it's so clever and endearing to me and it has a fun premise.
@wildfire: It was great! =D It makes me wonder how much anime I'm missing out on since I don't really watch any. I've seen some of the classics like Akira and some of the Studio Ghibli films (if I can remember: Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and Grave of the Fireflies which broke my heart and I am NEVER watching again, ugh!), and I watched some of InuYasha and School Rumble with friends. That's my limited experience. Oh, and a friend made me watch three episodes of Trigun once, if I'm remembering the name correctly.
I'm more into Disney stuff when it comes to animation. My favorite films are Sleeping Beauty, The Black Cauldron, and Tangled, pretty much neck and neck with each other in my top three. The Black Cauldron is actually kind of a bad film in terms of its execution, but that's only because Disney did it dirty and didn't give it the attention it needed to be great, and that hurts me especially since Eilonwy is the only Disney Princess with a name like mine! >.< No one knows how excited it can be to have a really weird ethnic name and then have a Disney Princess, of all things, have a name like yours.

@justice: It definitely depends on the apple and the season! Last year (not this past season, but the one before) here in New England, we had a very wet summer, and the apples were all huge and very flavorful. I ended up with some of the largest Golden Delicious apples I'd ever seen hanging on a tree, and they were quite good and flavorful. Some apples are also just larger as a variety, so "big" specimens of them are actually just normal. Mutsu and Jonagold are great examples of this. They are almost universally huge because they're triploid varieties, so they just come that way. Honeycrisp and Cosmic Crisp are on the larger side, and it also helps that they have less dense flesh, so if they swell with extra water then it's kind of just how they already are. Cosmic Crisp is great because it's a keeper. They bred Honeycrisp with Enterprise to get it, and Enterprise can last nearly a year in storage, so apples that are good for long storage will keep more flavor as well. This is one of the reasons apples are so special to me: so much can into how they taste, and there's this simultaneous possibility for heartache that you had a terrible year of work, but also the possibility of triumph that you worked hard all year and the crop came out great!
@feralgaythem: Try MN55 cultivar! (It's marketed as Rave or First Kiss in the U.S., I'm not sure about elsewhere.)

@totalanimefan: YES! I love making dinner for people, so you'd be very welcome! ^_^
Ah, I used to have real dinner parties with friends, but I've run short on IRL friends these days.

Hello, Wildfire! Hello, everyone! I had a long couple of days, but I didn't want anyone to think that I disappeared!
I went to see One Piece Film: Red today with a couple of people. I don't know anything about the manga or show, so I was completely lost through most of it. I liked all the amazing animation and nice music though, and the characters were all really whacky and cool. It was like pirate lore meets cyberpunk meets Grimm's fairy tales, so it was fun to watch.
It's really pouring up here at the moment. I'm just listening to the rain and drinking some peppermint chocolate tea. It tastes like Junior Mints!

@count trashula: The larger apples are often the least flavorful, though it's not always the case. Like, if I grow some Lamb Abbey Pearmain, the best tasting ones are hardly bigger than large crabapples. It's like the flavor is concentrated in the smaller fruit specimens.

@alchemists fire: Hooray! It gives me great joy to hear people say that they get a craving for apples because of me! Gala is an amazing, solid variety, I really enjoy them. And Golden Delicious is one of my favorites! If you find Macoun, you should try them! They're a bit tart and sweet and you can often find them in the store.

@totalanimefan: I make apple butter every couple of months! =D Fall is the best because I can pick the best apples for it. I actually had some of my McIntosh/Gala/Reine des Reinettes/Golden Russet apple butter batch on some freshly baked bread as my supper. (I was going to make grilled cheese, but I got lazy once I made the bread.)

I just tried to restring my psaltery with steel strings instead of brass like I did last time, and it was a failure. I completely kinked and ruined the first string, so I had to buy a whole new set on Etsy (you can't find these things easily). I've had a stressful evening so far, but I managed to restring the broken brass string, so my instrument is working again. I don't know how I'm going to put the steel ones on. Brass is softer and easier to work with. Oh well.
I'm just going to stay in and drink coffee and try to relax for the evening.
@wildfire: I changed my avatar's hair color to grey because that's my hair color now, so I figured let's rock it! I went into the chemo as a brunette it grew back greyer than my mother, so I look older than I feel these days. Old enough for ribald movies! XD

@totalanimefan: I got this one at an orchard where I normally buy apple butter and other delights, so I don't know what went wrong! It's all made on site.

@wildfire: Update: the movie was really good! Warning though: it is VERY R-rated or even of the NC-17 variety of independent film. I don't want to give you any spoilers, but it's definitely not for kids! XD

@totalanimefan: It was certainly not pleasant! I think I should try it again sometime though and maybe I'll have better luck.

@wildfire: My mother never let us climb the apple trees, so I had to climb the maples! Maybe if we had a big crabapple tree that was just used for pollination, that would have been fun. You can't beat the smell of being near an apple tree, so I imagine the smell of being IN one is even better!
He only came over for the evening. He lived nearby, but he has his own place. Sometimes I wonder if she wants him to move in eventually, but in past experience I've found that she seems to have no interest in giving up whatever lifestyle she has at the moment. So yeah, it was just an evening that he came over to be with her, and I'm the fifth wheel every time and just hide in my room lol
I'm watching "The Little Hours" in a music history class. We're talking about the ethos of the Renaissance and the switch from Medieval Scholasticism, and the movie is a HILARIOUS adaptation by Aubrey Plaza of one of the stories from the Decameron. There's a lot of actual Italian Trecento music from the late Middle Ages on the soundtrack, too. It's like all authentic music, so it puts everything into a fun context. And Aubrey Plaza plays a nun in a convent lol
