Aria blinked,"Lyle I already know all this." She said, no longer even interested in eating anything,"I've accepted all of this. If any this had really truly bothered me, I would have said no in the first place. I wouldn't be going through all of this, learning the proper way to eat, the proper way to speak, dress, and even walk if I didn't love and want to be with you." She looked down, trying to stay calm," I know I haven't mastered everything yet, but I'm doing the best I can... I don't know what else you want me to do. And then, knowing that you doubt me... You should be able to understand why I am hurt."
"Aria Sage." He said seriously, putting his fork and knife down and looking at her. "Do you really think I expect you to master everything in a few days? Even I didn't get where I am in a few days. It takes weeks, months of hard commitment. I know you must feel stressed since you have a year. But in reality...I don't think you have that. You can take as long as you want Aria. There is no rush. I won't force you to finish in a year alright? Heck, we don't even have to think about marriage yet. We can talk about that once you're all finished. I don't want you stressing out over your classes, although you shouldn't; the teachers speak very highly of you and the reports they left my father are very impressive. You should be proud, not upset." Lyle said, not sure what it was she wanted him to tell her specifically. "You're new to this lifestyle. Am I not allowed to have my worries and doubts? I'm only human miss Sage. If this isn't for you, I wouldn't want to force you into it."
"It just makes me feel like you don't think I really want this." Aria said softly," I'm doing all this because I love you and I want to do this." She looked down, wondering if Claudette might have been right. Maybe she really wasn't good enough, even with all this work. Yes, she was doing well with her classes, but what if all of that wasn't enough? "I'm just scared that, even after I do all of this..." She said quietly,"I still wouldn't be good enough."
"Still won't be good enough?" Lyle smirked and shook his head. "If I didn't think you were good enough, would I be allowing you to go through all of this? If I thought you weren't good enough, I'd already be married to Claudette. If I didn't think you were good enough, you'd still be working for me and we probably wouldn't even be friends. What kind of person do you think I am Aria? You must really be upset with me." He said, finishing up his tea and his food.
Aria was quiet for a few moments. Her head hurt, she was still hungry even if she wouldn't admit it, and she just wanted him to understand that she wanted to do all this because she wanted to be with him,"I just don't want you to doubt me so much." She said quietly,"If I didn't want to be with you, if I didn't want to do this, I wouldn't be doing all this."
Lyle nodded and poured himself some more tea. "Very well then, and I just want you to know that if you decide to go through wit this then there is no going back. Remember, no regrets. Well then, this was a nice chat." he said quietly and sipped his tea. He looked at her and frowned. "You should eat, if you want to anyway." Lyle was silent for a moment as he thought about what to do now. It still felt to him that she was upset and he didn't know what else to do about it. "I suppose I should leave you be now, wouldn't want to ruin your day any more than I clearly have." he said after a while. "If there are any other concerns you may have, you know where to find me. If not, I bid you a goodnight." He said quietly as he stood and excused himself. He walked over to her and wanted to kiss her cheek but decided that maybe that wouldn't be wise so instead he just pat her shoulder then turned and left to his room.
She gently grabbed his arm to stop him,"Wait... don't go yet..." She said softly,"You didn't ruin my day. Me getting overemotional about everything has. And I'm sorry about that." She really wanted a hug from him to feel better but felt it was childish to ask for that. She leaned over and kissed his cheek gently,"If you wish to go, sleep well." She said gently,"I love you."
Lyle sighed and looked down at her, "Don't lie. I was the one that hurt you right? I was the reason you left and got lost. I'm the reason all of this even happened. You can't sit there and say I didn't make you upset." He said honestly, freeing his arm from her hold. "Enjoy your food, enjoy your hot bath, and get plenty of sleep because you look exhausted, and I'm sorry."
Aria didn't bother eating anymore, she didn't want it. She just went up to her room and sank onto bed, not even bothering with a bath or changing her clothes. She curled up in a ball, finally letting the tears fall, unable to hold them back anymore.
Lying in bed, Lyle bundled up under the blanket and looked at his bathroom door. Maybe a hot shower would have been nice but he was too tired and he had a headache. Today could have gone better, but it could have gone worse too. "She could have gotten hurt." he said to himself and closed his eyes as he slowly drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, Aria stayed in bed for a while. Her eyes were red from all the crying and she still had a headache. She slowly got up and headed into her bathroom, deciding to spend the morning relaxing in a warm bath. Hopefully it would make her feel better about everything.
The morning went as he assumed it would. His parents asked about Aria and he answered honestly. He wasn't surprised though when she didn't show up for breakfast. "The girl is starving herself, I don't know what she thinks she's going to win by doing that. She'll just get sick." he said, sounding slightly annoyed. If Aria was going to be stubborn then that was fine, he had paperwork to look through anyway.
Aria had been on her way into the dining room when he said that. Instead of getting upset, she chose to ignore it this time. She decided she wouldn't bother him today and to go about her business. Maybe do a new sketch or practice the flute? She wasn't sure yet. "Forgive me for being so late, Your Highnesses." She said to the king and queen,"I fell asleep quite quickly last night and hadn't had my bath until this morning. I was relaxing for so long, I didn't see the time." She looked over as a servant brought out her breakfast for her. She thanked them and sat down to eat.
Lyle didn't speak, instead he just drank his coffee and continued to enjoy his breakfast. "It's alright dear. I hope you're feeling better today. How is your pet doing?" The queen asked. "That's right, I don't think I've seen it running around the castle. It isn't sick is it?" The king asked. Lyle didn'y want that pet running around inside though. He assumed it would make a mess. If it wanted to run it could go outside and run.
Aria smiled,"Gambit is doing just fine." She said,"He spent yesterday playing with a few toys I had for him and he was quite happy to see me when I returned. He slept beside me through the night and he was the one who had let me know I was running late this morning." She took a few bites of breakfast and took a sip of her glass of milk,"After breakfast I'll probably curl up with a book and spend the day reading." She continued to eat her breakfast quietly
The king and queen looked at each other but figured the future of their son was in his own hands. Maybe this would only be a friendship after all. It was a shame, but they weren't going to force him to marry her if he didn't want to. "Well it sounds like you have your whole day planned out, good for you. What will you be doing Lyle? Will you read with Aria?" his mother asked. Lyle smiled and shook his head. "I can't mother. Besides I'm sure she'd prefer to read alone now and I have papers to look through with father." he answered simply.
Aria looked disappointed. But what did she expect? She knew he had more important things to do. "I never said I wanted to read alone." She said,"But I suppose I will have to as I wouldn't pull you away from something so important." She finished her breakfast, excused herself, and started to head upstairs. She accepted that this was how things were going to be. She really had hoped to spend a little time with Lyle today, but it wouldn't be happening.
Lyle was going to answer but she had already left. "And then she runs.." he muttered, looking rather angry. No, he couldn't let her ruin his day, he did have work to do and once he was done with that he wasn't sure what he'd do. Perhaps play the piano, or sit out in the garden in hopes of relaxing. If this was how it was going to be he couldn't imagine how marriage would go. Would it even work out? He had hoped it would but if she was just going to run and hide every single day, then he might as well not get married at all. "Come Lyle, let's get to work." His father snapped him out his thoughts and he nodded, getting up and following him while his mother went to answer the phone which was ringing.
Aria went upstairs and into her room. She went over to a small desk in her room and sat at it, wanting to write to get her frustration out. It usually helped her feel better. On that paper, she wrote about how much she loved Lyle, but she was just frustrated with the way things were and how she wished she could tell him all this without getting flustered. She also wrote how much she feared she was losing him, and how those thoughts had only made things worse. She finished writting and went into the bathroom. While she was in there, Gambit jumped onto the chair and took the paper she was writting on. He took it and ran down the hall, leaving the paper in Lyle's room. Aria found Gambit there and picked him up after making sure there was no mess, not realizing the paper was still in there. As she took Gambit back to her room, she sighed,"I don't know what to do anymore." She said softly to Gambit, sitting down on her bed with him. She set him beside her, grabbed her book, and started to read again.

"I'm glad to see that no one has grown upset with the tax raises." Lyle said as he continued to help his father. He thought that some people would be upset but if they were, they were keeping quiet which was nice. "Tomorrow? W-well I don't know." The queen said into the phone. A guest tomorrow...normally she'd love company but the way things were right now she didn't think company was a good idea. "N-no it's nothing like that. I...well Lyle hasn't been in the best moods lately. I just don't know if a visitor would be a good idea. I-" The queen blinked and frowned. "I don't think-" she sighed as the person hung up, causing her to hang up the phone as well. Now how was she going to explain this to her husband and to Lyle?
