"From what I understand, sometime this afternoon." Jaden replied.
"We'll know for sure when Rene returns from lunch." he said.
"But it really boils down to you." he went on.
"How are you feeling?" he asked.
"How's your mana? How's the injuries?" he asked further.
"Just.... overall, how are you doing?"

"Mana still seems a bit weaker than normal, but all right otherwise." Desiree answered after a moment or two.
"I am looking forward to getting out of here, admittedly." She then added, not entirely sure what it was that she was supposed to say, in reference than that.
"Beyond that, I don't think I really need to be kept here, personally."
"Well, then odds are Rene'll let you go home later today." he told her.
"Anyway, eat up." he said.
"Before it gets cold." he added.
Several hours later, while Jaden was still there, Rene stepped into the room.
"All right." he said.
"Time for one final scan to see if you're good to go." he told Desiree.
"How are your physical injuries?" he asked.
"And how is your mana? Weak or not, do you feel like you have control over it again?" he asked further.
"Anyway, eat up." he said.
"Before it gets cold." he added.
Several hours later, while Jaden was still there, Rene stepped into the room.

Desiree just laughed lightly.
"Rene, I feel fine." She told him.
"And I do mean that."
Rene nodded in response.
"Right then." he said.
"We'll see if a scan confirms that." he told her.
Desiree was then surrounded by a bubble of water... though she could breathe just fine. It lasted for about 30 seconds, before it dissipated.
"No abnormalities." he commented.
"I see no issue with releasing you now." he told her.
"You heading back with Jaden, or with Kalin and I?" he asked her.
"Right then." he said.
"We'll see if a scan confirms that." he told her.

"I'm heading back to my apartment." Desiree told him simply, and honestly.
"I'm in a lease, so there is no reason not to go back there." She added before smirking lightly. She knew he wouldn't like that, and to say she was interested in his reactions would be a bit of an understatement.
Rene paused when he heard that.
"....I'm sorry?" he said.
"The apartment?" he asked.
"Oh, no. No, no, no." he said. "In fact, I dare say that you should NEVER go near that place again." he went on.
"Wait..." he then muttered.
"ARE you depressed?" he asked her.
"Is this... your way of trying to commit suicide?" he asked further.
"....I'm sorry?" he said.
"The apartment?" he asked.
"Oh, no. No, no, no." he said. "In fact, I dare say that you should NEVER go near that place again." he went on.
"Wait..." he then muttered.

Desiree just sighed.
"No. I'm not." She stated.
"Deryck stopped by here. He chose not to attack. He's moving past that, now that he doesn't have Mother controlling him." She continued, knowing there was a very good chance he would not believe her.
"I don't fear him."
Again, Rene was silent.
"He was HERE!?" he exclaimed.
"I had the same reaction." Jaden said.
"But... I think she's onto something." he told him.
"Excuse me?" Rene asked him.
"Look... just... I mean...." Jaden stammered, before sighing deeply.
"I just think she may be right."
"He was HERE!?" he exclaimed.

Desiree sighed lightly.
"Look, I'll go to Jaden's if you really don't want me to go home." She commented.
"But I cannot promise that I will be staying there." She added.
"Because I do not feel I must."
Rene narrowed his eyes.
"....fine." he said.
"Go to the apartment if you want to." he told her.
"Beg pardon?" Jaden asked. "Just like that?" he asked further.
"I will make SURE he doesn't return." Rene told them.
"Or, rather, that he regrets it immediately when he DOES."
"....fine." he said.

"No." Desiree stated.
"You won't do anything of the sort." She stated, her voice stern.
'You won't be doing anything that could jeaopardize him... well, you won't do it. Period."
Rene was silent, and then pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Arrrrrrrgh..." he growled under his breath.
"Just... just.... ergh." he snarled.
"Look, will it help put your mind at ease if I said that I would be her guard?" Jaden asked.
"...." Rene was silent, before looking at Jaden.
"Anything happens to her, your throat is as good as mince meat." he threatened him.
"Arrrrrrrgh..." he growled under his breath.
"Just... just.... ergh." he snarled.
"Look, will it help put your mind at ease if I said that I would be her guard?" Jaden asked.
"...." Rene was silent, before looking at Jaden.
"Anything happens to her, your throat is as good as mince meat." he threatened him.
"Don't worry, Rene. Nothing will." Desiree then said, trying to assure him that she'd be all right. All in all, she wasn't entirely sure she believed it, nevermind whether or not he did.
Granted, she did HOPE he believed her, of course.
"..............." Rene was silent for a bit, and then sighed.
"Right." he said.
"I... have paperwork to fill out." he told them.
"I'll be back." he said, before leaving.
"Wow..." Jaden muttered.
"You can really change anyone's mind, can't you?" he asked her.
"Right." he said.

"It's a learned skill." She stated.
"Beyond that, I know how to get my way." She added with a smirk.
"Anyhow, I am relieved to be getting out of here." She admitted
Jaden just sighed.
"Yeah." he said.

"Just.... yeah." he muttered.
"If you want to." he repeated.
"It's an option."
"Yeah." he said.

"I know." She said with a smile.

Desiree and Jaden remained close after she was released from the hospital. Neither Jaden nor Rene were keen on her being in the same apartment she'd recently been accosted in, but neither of them were really going to complain too much. She was a determined young woman, and that was very well known.
Even if it wasn't seen too often.
After about seven months though, Jaden returned home in the middle of a blizzard to find a figure sitting and leaning against the wall of the building he lived in. It almost looked as if they were waiting for someone.
As he neared, they reached and looked up, brushing some of the snow off before getting to their feet. As they did so, he could see who it was.
Desiree.
And she did not look good.
Jaden paused when he saw her.
"D... Desiree...?" he asked.
"What...? What happened to you?" he asked her.
"What's wrong?" he asked further.
"Come in, come in." he then offered, opening the front door so they could go inside.
"D... Desiree...?" he asked.
"What...? What happened to you?" he asked her.
"What's wrong?" he asked further.

Desiree was silent, but followed Jaden inside after a few seconds. It wasn't until they were up and in his suite. She was silent for a moment after that before sighing.
"I... we checked everything about that apartment... but..." She trailed off a bit.
"He... he treid ..." She started before shaking her head, barely able to finish it.

How was she supposed to say that her landlord, someone she was supposed to trust, had been trying to violate her in more than one way? She had no idea how to say it.
