Darrel wandered down some of the paths, before he suddenly stopped short.
"......." he was silent, as his nose started to twitch and go wild.
"Wait..." he mumbled.
"This smell..." he said.
"Samantha!?" he wondered aloud, before starting to race in the direction of the smell... and hearing the howl of a wolf as the scent grew more potent.
"Shit, shit, shit..." he cursed.
"Please don't let me be too late..." he prayed.

Sammy was silent as she was there, but as Darrel neared, she paused.
"Wait..." She said quietly. Those didn't sound like creature steps. Those sounded like human steps.
As she listened, she heard a growl from the wolf before it seemed to stick its nose off and head off. Someone new was there... this meal was more trouble than it was worth now.
The wolf disappeared into the darkness of the underbrush... just as the footsteps stopped.
"Hello!?" she heard Darrel's voice call out from the top of the ravine.
"Samantha!?" he called out.
"Are you here!?" he asked further, as he continued to look and sniff around.
'She's here.' he thought.
'But where, exactly?' he wondered.
The scent was thick in this area, but he couldn't quite pinpoint where, exactly, she was.

"Yo!" Sammy called up.
"About a dozen feet down! Can't get up myself." She called up to him, having recognized Darrel's voice in an instant.
"So... hi. I'm alive. Wanna help?"
Darrel looked down the ravine, before raising an eyebrow.
"Eh?" he muttered.
"Right." he said, as he carefully slid down the side, to where she was.
"Ohhhh boy." he mumbled when he saw her injuries.
"One sec, I can use portals." he told her, as he extended his hand towards the wall...
...for nothing to happen.
"...uh..." he stammered.
"Hm." he mumbled, trying again, and failing again.
"Guess... not." he said.
"Eh?" he muttered.
"Right." he said, as he carefully slid down the side, to where she was.

"Guess... not." he said.
"If mana was an option..... don't you think I would have used mine to get out of here and home?" Sammy asked with a laugh.
"I've been stuck down here all night." She added.
"So... I'm riduclously happy to see someone else."
".....okay, fair point." Darrel muttered.
"Right then." he said.
"Does it hurt to move?" he asked her.
"I think I can get us both up to the top of the ravine." he told her further.
"But only if you can move on your own power and... well... climb on my back." he said.
"If not, I'll think of something else." he went on.
"And... I'm glad you're okay." he told her, before pausing.
"Well... relatively okay." he corrected himself.
"Right then." he said.
"Does it hurt to move?" he asked her.
"I think I can get us both up to the top of the ravine." he told her further.
"But only if you can move on your own power and... well... climb on my back." he said.

"And... I'm glad you're okay." he told her, before pausing.
"Well... relatively okay." he corrected himself.
"I'll survive." Sammy said before carefully getting herself to a sitting position.
"Trust me, I can ignore most pain." She commented.
"So get in front of me and I'll climb onto your back."
Darrel just nodded.
"Right." he replied.
He then got in front of her, and got down lower so she'd have an easier time getting on his back.
"Hop on." he said.
"And I heard a wolf when I was approaching." he went on.
"Is that something to be worried about?" he asked.
"Right." he replied.
He then got in front of her, and got down lower so she'd have an easier time getting on his back.
"Hop on." he said.
"And I heard a wolf when I was approaching." he went on.
"Is that something to be worried about?" he asked.
"That wolf is why I'm here in the first place." Sammy stated as she climbed onto his back. It took longer than he would have liked, but at least she was able to after a few attempts.
"All right." She said after a couple seconds.
"Let's go." She paused a moment before biting her lip.
'Because damn I hurt."
"......." Darrel was silent, before nodding.
"All right." he said.
With that, he started his ascent up the side of the ravine.
It took some doing... and he almost slipped a few times... but he managed to finally reach the top after about 10 minutes.
"Finally!" he exclaimed.
"You ok?" he asked Sammy.
"All right." he said.
With that, he started his ascent up the side of the ravine.
It took some doing... and he almost slipped a few times... but he managed to finally reach the top after about 10 minutes.
"Finally!" he exclaimed.
"You ok?" he asked Sammy.
Sammy was silent, just held fast during the climb. Once he'd reached the top, she relaxed her grip a bit.
"eah... yeah I think so." She told him.
"I'm not sure what the mana interference was... but it may have been a plant down there." She then said.
"So we could try again, unless you want to carry me home. I really don't think I could do so myself."
"Hm." Darrel muttered.
"Well.... hm." he repeated.
"I suppose you could call your Mom." he told her.
"My phone's in my pocket, seeing as yours is probably busted." he went on.
"She can probably come and get you." he reasoned.
"Well.... hm." he repeated.
"I suppose you could call your Mom." he told her.
"My phone's in my pocket, seeing as yours is probably busted." he went on.
"She can probably come and get you." he reasoned.
"I have no idea where my phone is." Sammy answered.
"I think it fell separate from me down there earlier." She added.
"and pass your phone over, and I'll call. Or text. Or something."
Darrel was silent, before shifting himself a bit, and grabbing his phone out of his pocket.
"Here." he told her.
"Call your Mom or Dad or someone." he said.
"Odds are they can teleport you somewhere more safely than me." he reasoned.
"I can use portals, but they're... rough."
"Here." he told her.
"Call your Mom or Dad or someone." he said.
"Odds are they can teleport you somewhere more safely than me." he reasoned.
"I can use portals, but they're... rough."
Sammy nodded, but didn't say anything before sending a text off to her dad, since he was the one who had a number she could remember for the moment.
Hey. Need a mana extraction. Busted leg, busted ribs. It's Sammy using Darrel's phone. She sent before sighing.
"Damned wolf." she muttered
Darrel looked back at her when she said what she did.
"What happened?" he asked.
"Did it just attack you unprovoked?" he asked further.
"I mean, I know a wolf is a predator and all, but still..." he muttered.
"Such an attack is... rare. Especially for you, in these woods."
"What happened?" he asked.
"Did it just attack you unprovoked?" he asked further.
"I mean, I know a wolf is a predator and all, but still..." he muttered.
"Such an attack is... rare. Especially for you, in these woods."
"Yeah. I think it's one of the ones that Uncle Ash brought back to stay here, where it was safe. Recently, at that... meaning chances are it's not used to seeing people." She added after a few moments.
"Which sucks that I encountered it, instead of any of the others in these woods."
"......" Darrel was silent as he heard that, but when he opened his mouth to say something, there was a burst of red flames nearby... and Lindsay rushed over.
"Samantha!" he yelled.
"Oh my lord, are you okay!?" he exclaimed.
"I'll take you to Rene right now!" he told her.
"....." Darrel remained silent, figuring it was golden right now.
"Samantha!" he yelled.
"Oh my lord, are you okay!?" he exclaimed.
"I'll take you to Rene right now!" he told her.

"There is no shame in deterrence. Having a weapon is very different from actually using it." - Ghandi
"I am not moving, Dad." Sammy stated simply, plainly.
"It was painful to get where I am, and I am not going to move for MORE pain. Thanks but no thanks. Just send both of us." She added after a moment.
