Sammy sighed when he asked his question.

"Yup." she answered.

"And not allowed to use the net, or anytyhing other than books for the research either." She then said.

"And that includes mana of any kind."

"We're in a freaking mage school. Why limit us like this?" She whined. It was quite obviously not serious though.

"....hm." Darrell muttered.

"Well... want help?" he asked.

"I spend... like... a LOT of time here." he told her.

"Mostly hiding, but that gets boring, so I took to reading a lot of the books here." he went on. "When I'm not hiding in other places, anyway." he then mumbled.

"Anyway, what's your report on?" he asked.

"Maybe I can find or remember some good books about it?"

"Holy Hell YES." Sammy exclaimed, relief in her voice.

"And it's on one thing that there isn't much of in this school. The persecution of mages." She told him simply.

"I mean ... sure, I know a lot about it, but... that only gets me so far. I can't quote sources, because I'm pretty sure grams won't count for that." She then said.

Darrell was silent for a moment, scratching at his chin.

"Hmmm." he mumbled.

"Yeah, that IS a sparse subject." he admitted.

"However, I DO know of about 3 or 4 books here that cover the subject quite well." he told her.

"Come on." he said, as he started to walk.

"They're kind of hidden away, so the younger ones don't accidentally find them and get potentially scarred."

"Okay." he replied.

At the end of the day, he went home.

He went to the building they lived in, went to one of the higher floors, went to the door to the suite they lived in, and then went inside.

"Mom. Dad. I'm home." he said as he stepped inside.

He then went to the fridge to see if there was any food.

"Perfect." he heard from behind him. When he turned to look, he saw his mother packing something into her messenger bag across the hall.

"Darrel, honey, I'm sorry but your father and I have been called away to help Sydney with something for the week." She told him honestly.

"Meaning you can't stya home alone." She added.

"We aren't leaving right away, mind. How was school?"" She asked with a soft smile to her voice

"........." Darrel was silent as he heard what his mother had to say.

"Was fine." he said.

"Spent most of it running from mobs." he told her.

"Met a friend." he went on.

"...RE-met... a friend...?" he then mumbled confusedly.

"Got reacquainted with Samantha." he then said, cutting to the chase.

"I.... what?" She asked as she set her bag down and looked at him.

"RE met her? What do you mean by that?" She asked.

"I try to be as low-key as possible." he said.

"So... I... yeah... hide from people. From the mobs. And... yeah..." he mumbled further.

Desiree sighed lightly, but didn't touch on the tendency he had to hide.

"Well, just as well you got reacquainted with her." She told him;

"You're staying with the Fyrane's for the week that your dad and I are gone."

"There's some of those cookies that I baked the other day left, the ones with the blood mxed in." Desiree commetned.

"If that'll do the trick, you're welcome to them, Darrel." She added.

"If not, we should probably take them with us, Jaden. They don't do well when left for long, after all."

Desiree just sighed as she watched Darrel head off.

". . . nope." She said.

"Sadly, it doesn't matter what name we give him - Sherwood... McCormick... both would have us following him. Although, I think he is appreciative of going with McCormick, if only because we don't have Sydney's history hanging over him now." She commented.

"Really don't think he'd handle the whole 'Bathory line' bull too well..."

"Evan's pretty outgoing... maybe it'll rub off." he guessed.

"And Sammy might help him get a little more active or something." he added with a small shrug.
