Rene was definitely surprised to hear that.

He made his order as well, speaking excellent Japanese.

Once the menus had been collected, he looked at her.

"Wow." he said.

"That surprised me." he admitted.

"How many other languages do you know?" he asked.

"Uhhhhh.... hmmm." Rene mumbled.

"Most European languages." he told her.

"As well as Japanese and Arabic." he said.

"....and some older, dead languages, but... they don't really count." he went on.

"But Mandarin and Korean?" he then commented.

"Nice." he said.

"Those are tricky ones."

Rene just chuckled.

"Fair enough." he replied.

"Make sense." he said.

"And those languages will sure to come in handy in the future." he told her.

"A multilingual lawyer is always a good thing." he went on.

He then paused for a moment, thinking about it.

"You know... I don't think it's ever been said..." he then muttered.

"Prosecution or Defense?" he asked her.

"And why whichever one you chose?"

Rene nodded in response.

"Both good reasons." he said.

"And a noble first one, too." he went on.

He then sighed quietly, before shaking his head.

"I wish I could say that's why I first got into medical studies and such, but... sadly, it is not." he lamented.

"That being said, I DID become a doctor to help people. Just didn't start that path with the best of intentions." he then admitted.

"At least I managed to correct my course a little." he said further.

"Though, it IS amazing how useful the knowledge is in my day-to-day personal life." he finished, taking a drink of water, and smacking his lips a little.

"....ah, right." he muttered, before shrugging.

Rene nodded.

"This is very true." he said, putting salt in the water, tasting it, then putting a little more in.

"So I suppose this is a good thing all around." he chuckled.

"And yes, this works." he told her.

"Not like the supply back home." he said further.

"By the way, I really am sorry about your unpleasant experience with that bottle of water." he continued.

"Really shoulda warned you back then."

"Fair enough." Rene responded, as their first round of food showed up... sushi rolls for the both of them.

"All riiiiiiight." Rene smirked, turning the plate a little.

"Ones closest to you are the ones you ordered." he told her.

"Dig in." he said.

"If you want, we can do a little bit of sightseeing afterwards, before heading back home." he continued.

"After all, you have plans, and an appointment to make."

Gavin nodded.

"I do." he replied.

"It's time you learned how things go in a real courtroom, being up there and in the middle of it all." he told her.

"And the one I'm pairing you with should get along with you nicely." he added.

"Come on in, Everett!" he then called out.

After that, she saw a man enter the office... one that she had seen a couple of times before. He looked to be in his mid-30's, had jet black hair with frosted blonde tips, and had tanned skin. He wore a nice black outfit, and looked like one that had seen more than his fair share of court.

"And here I am, boss." he said with a smirk, sitting down beside Kalin.

Everett just chuckled.

"Hear that, boss?" he asked Gavin.

"I'm prettier than you." he said.

Gavin faked being hurt, and swooned backwards as though he was recoiling.

"THIS is the thanks I get for taking you in!" he declared in a melodramatic tone.

"I pair you with one that has experience, and one that I feel you will connect with and learn from, and this is how you thank me!" he went on, but answering her question, at least.

Everett just looked at Kalin, and smirked.

"No issues at all." he told her.

"I'm already a battle-scarred veteran in the courtroom." he said.

"I relish the chance to teach the new generation." he went on.

"Show the kitten how to bare her fangs and claws."

Everett just laughed a little.

"Sorry, sometimes things like that slip out." he told her.

"Good response, though." he said.

"You start immediately." Gavin then told her.

"You can help him go through some of the case files he has, and he'll be taking you to court with him." he continued.

"See how one my best defense attorneys handles things."
