Ah well then, there is gonna be alot of reading involved :vanora_xd: The literature that you need to even just get started is quite abit. I wish you all good luck and happy fun times.
I would suggest watching critical role on youtube to see what a smooth running game looks like. Even though its not very smooth, its probably as smooth as it can get for an improv game.
You can start with campaign 2 episode 1. In the first campaign the production value wasn't very high so abit of technical difficulties in the start but it started getting better with better cameras and microphones and such. You might miss out on some inside jokes but not too many.

Well its important to choose a good DM, if you don't have a choice then you make do with what you got :vanora_xd: Some DMs go on complete power trips and its not enjoyable to have your OC in the hands of a powerdrunk maniac. Good DMs are storytellers and referees to make sure everyone plays by the rules and has a good time.

In a fantasy world it would be very likely the number would have been lower then. :vanora_xd: Most of the time the Dungeon Master won't even tell you what number you have to beat, he just tells you to roll and then tells you if you succeed or fail. It adds to the mystery and omnipotence of the Dungeon Master.

Usually if the request is outrageous the number you have to beat for success is higher. If the request is perfectly normal or in character then the number you have to beat is lower, maybe around 10. But that's always for the Dungeon Master to decide. Sometimes, if its a hard decision he rolls against you and if you get the higher number you succeed.

Yep, the other dice are used mostly for damage or, for example, rolling how many brownies show up.
D20 is usually rolled to check for success or failure. 1 is critical failure and 20 is critical success so the effects are usually doubled. For example on a 1 the brownies mess up your entire room instead. On a 20 they vacuum, dry clean all the sheets, fix up everything, and the place is basically spotless.
If you beat the number I gave, its just a normal success. If you don't, nothing happens.

I think you would need to produce alot of flowers and round cakes if you wanted to live. And stay away from high places like the Eiffel Tower. Its not even safe inside your house because Vilas can make strong winds capable of lifting houses. So you are better off in a cave until they forget about you.
