@koneko: I hope he does too! He got the collar off almost right away so he's healing without it for now. My mum's cat is like 7 so it's been a while for me too.

@Jolly: yeah it can be hard, especially as the spectrum is a relatively new concept. And it sure is a varied spectrum. Low support needs and high support needs are the accepted terms for either ends of the spectrum. There's plenty of decent info out there that can explain it better than me lol, just as long as you stay away from Autism Speaks.
