@Angelus: You don't have to write in chronological order either. If you want them in New York, start them there. You can always go back later and explain how they got there in whatever way you want :)

@Angelus: Oh, sure! And you're like, "They're going a vacation? But why? And why New York? Maybe they have family there? But how? And what side of the family is that? Did one of their parents grow up in New York? How will that change the way my character was raised?" And you end up going further and further down that rabbit hole.

What I'm trying to do lately is just not bother explaining every little thing, so I'd probably stop at "vacation" and leave it alone. Maybe the character has just always wanted to see New York, doesn't matter right now. /shrug

Mhm. A lot of the time I'll notice my character does something that they seemingly have no motive for doing, and instead of just going along with it, I stop and agonize over whether I have to change the character's personality and back story so their action makes sense or have them not take that action at all but then I have to figure out some other way to get to the conclusion I want, and either way it usually results in a lot of rewriting. I might be better off just working around those little issues and fixing them at the end.

@Angelus: Perfectionism is huge problem for me too (and not just in writing). I get so wrapped up in details, it's hard to tell myself "just push though, you can fix it later."

@dragoness129: Haha same, I spend way more time building the world and the characters than I do actually writing a story. I'm trying to break that habit but it's not easy.

@Dipper: Ohhh I though English and Psychology was the name of one course xD I get what you mean about studying literature haha. I probably should have taken it more seriously in high school, since it probably would have made me a better writer, but I just couldn't bring myself to read books that didn't interest me. Now I don't read books at all. Why do I still like writing? lol
Psych is neat though! I minored in psych. Didn't take many social/behavioral psych classes though; I was more into the neurobiology of it. I did take dev psych when I was planning to be a teacher though! That was probably my favorite class out of the curriculum for a teaching major!

@Dipper: Aww I feel that, I wanted to be an author too. But I'm way too insecure to share my work with anyone anymore so that's not happening xD What's that course about though? It sounds interesting! lol pls indulge me I miss college so bad

@Dipper: Math's the kind of subject where you have to find the way of thinking about that makes sense to you! And if you like ciphers, starting with a cryptography class might work well for you!

I'm sure there a bunch of great videos on youtube to teach you how to play blackjack! Now's a good time to watch one, while we're on a break :)

@Dipper: Yeah, that kind of thing. We hardly did any work on computers though, it was mostly about the math behind it. It was a fun class, but I definitely don't remember most of the algorithms we learned :P

@Dipper: Sounds like a really cool book o3o I took a cryptography class in college and learned about ciphers, but most of the class was about the math surrounding encryption of data, how to encrypt stuff so it's secure and that kind of thing.

Scrabble distribution is like E > A > I > O > N/R/T > U/L/S and then 1 or 2 of the rest. So I was all about guessing vowels first, but I really undervalued the T!
