The Netherlands here:

We pay 110€ per month and have an own risk of 385€ per year.
Nearly 2 years ago, I was in the supermarket and suddenly had a lot of pain. So much that, I sat down on the ground, and couldn’t get up.
I called my doctor and he said to come to his office.
Let me repeat: I had so much pain I could not get up.

A manager of the supermarket was like f it and called for an ambulance. The police came, close followed by the ambulance. The 4 of them (police, 2 of the ambulance and the manager) had to help me up to get on the stretcher.

9 hours in ER, lots of testing and morphine later, they found out I needed an emergency surgery.

A few months later, the insurance sent me a letter:
They weren’t going to pay for the ambulance, the morphine, only part of the costs for the ER and not any of the medicine I got after it.

That 15 minute ambulance ride was the most expensive cab I ever had (900€).

@star2000shadow: for me they said yhat they figured that my spine was pressed together because of the double scoliosis and I put it back with a lot of noise.

I have a few actually:

Dying during surgery and then scaring the crap out of the doctors for coming back on my own (“Bazinga mofo’s!”)

Getting into the Royal Navy (by saying I wanted to be a pirate and this was the closest I could get)

Helping my mother survive against all odds (when she left the hospital, they said she probably wouldn’t make the end of the week, but she survived 1.5 years longer)

Having surgery 4 times in 2 years and, every time they said it was going to be really hard, I’d back to my normal self in 2-3 weeks

Going through the biggest part of the transgender traject (just 1 surgery left for that) without much trouble

Working through money problems and paying off debt without too much trouble
