Posted in we have received snow. Posted 3 years ago
We had a snowfall of about a foot a couple of weeks ago, and the weather warnings recently for snow have just become rain. I don't miss shoveling, that's for sure.

I think it really only leapt in popularity because of that one guy who sold his pieces in that format. If money can be made, people are going to jump on it. Eventually a new trend will come along and we'll hear about that as the NFT trend fades into the background. It all really just seems like a game for bitcoin bros to play, so I never paid much attention.

@Count Trashula: May I purchase a Goetia and a Queen of Pentacles from you, if they're still available?
Oh boy, I remember when those cards came out. I was on a vacation as a kid, and when I came back, all of the other kids at school had stacks of cards and were trading in a frenzy.
I can't remember if it was corsola, or a different water-type that you had to yeet back into the ocean in one of the games.
Ah, the cat walk is interesting.

    @Aisukohi: .
Ah, you know, it happens. Thank you for the condolences, though. In the end, I think it was good experience for me to put my foot down and set boundaries with people after all that time.

Something you mentioned to me sounds familiar; the part about wanting to confront the other person and unload on them. I think for a long time I held that sentiment about a former relationship (friendship) that ended very badly. If only I could ask what went wrong, why they did what they did, and tell them how much they hurt me. But recently I read something that really finally struck a chord with me:

The people that hurt us don't carry that pain around. They get to move on with their lives and live happily, and that apology or genuine remorse for what they did will never come despite how much we might want it. Once I finally realized that it wasn't any use to pine for what was never coming, somehow I felt relieved by it. It seems like common sense, but like I said, I'm a slow learner.
Does anyone else enjoy spending a little time in the kitchen?

I was wondering what everyone else's kitchen life looked like. Do you try to get in and out of there as quickly as possible? Do you enjoy hosting lavish meals for yourself? If you could only keep one kitchen appliance, which one would be the lucky winner?

I'm also kind of curious about what everyone else eats on a day-to-day.

For example, for breakfast lately I eat chicken pâté on whatever bread product I can reach. Lunch is usually something easy and premade, like a frozen beef patty or monster-sized salad with almonds. Dinners are kind of up in the air and dependent on what my partner requests. In the colder months, I make a lot of curry soups but in the summer we try to grill more. I tend to prefer more vegetarian-aimed meals, but my partner is a ride-or-die chicken kind of person.

    Good on you!

I have some experience in cutting ties with the people and family that don't bother making an effort or have done something to deserve the cold shoulder (or excommunication). To be honest, my family follows the "four Fs" rule: friends and family fuck you first. It's a bit brazen so if you're more of a talk-it-out kind of person, this won't hold as strong. So as much as we love family and as loyal as we all are, there's a point when you don't need to keep someone in your life just because they're a familial relation.

Personally, I have to be burned a couple of times to get it through. This year I absolutely severed connections with a person that I've known and been friends with for about 20 years. While in school, I had to cut ties with someone who I had grown intimately close with over the course of a stressful year.

It's really hard, and it's incredibly easy to be pulled back into the relationship by some sweet sentiments and nostalgia, but hold strong to that initial gut feeling you had.

@Priestess of Pie: Ahh, I've never come across that one! I might have to look into it a bit more and maybe see if I could stand a simulator. I think the charm of a handheld device is that it's...well, handheld. I've played Two Towns! I loved that one, too, but there was some kind of error in my version where it randomly shut off/reset the day. It made me a little anxious because I was never sure when it would happen. Still, trekking through the mountains and looking for forage items or running through the tunnel was kind of fun.

I still love the look of those little pixelated sprites pulling turnips in the early games, hahaha.

Oh, I played Doraemon: Story of Seasons over the summer. I downloaded it when it was on sale, and it's really gorgeous with a pretty soundtrack. The only downside is that it's a Doraemon so you play as a little boy and there aren't the normal options of customization. Still, it was kind of a charming adventure of a new game.

That sounds kind of bonkers, right?

I only remember one snowstorm growing up and it happened on St. Patrick's day. I think it was something like 4 feet in a night and no one was prepared so announcements cancelling work or school weren't widespread. I remember trekking through snow to make a path that my siblings could follow behind me and we had to turn around when this municipal truck told us school had been cancelled.

I don't remember any specific instances in text, but I think they're pretty common.

I remember a professor trying not to laugh when a student (known for being one of those "I know everything" bros) kept mispronouncing a term. It's fair to say there was no credibility to be had.

I listen to a playlist as I fall asleep so the results often come out as heavy on classical and not particularly enjoyable in the daytime.

The dialogue in the Matrix felt like what a Boomer believes a Millennial in a professional industry talks like. Because, O-M-G, can you believe that? Totes rad.

I think that with any loved series or franchise, you're going to have to remember that the nostalgia of what you love will rarely be met with the expectations of what is new. I say rarely because I felt that Dune was widely well-received. There are just some fans you aren't going to please.

As a movie on the whole, just taken at face-value, I thought it was fine. There was nothing particularly memorable and I had to look up extra information after viewing so that I could understand what was going on. The expositions in the film were blurted out so quickly and mixed with acronyms so I personally didn't understand. In the end, when Smith changes, I didn't understand. I had to look up to understand that he "vacated" the body he borrowed and wasn't just somehow patched out/purged by the Analyst (Neil Patrick Harris).

For me personally, it was interesting to see the contrast between what was viewed as sleek cyber punk back in the 90s--all that shiny pleather and trenchcoats--versus what is fantasy/cool today. I guess chartreuse, mesh crop-tops and Manic Panic! are what makes you a fantasy character these days.

That being said, I did like the brief glimpses in reflections that didn't match the characters. When I first caught it with Neo, I wasn't really sure if I had seen it and that was enjoyable. The costumes the neo-Morpheus wore were so flamboyant and interesting (especially in the sparring sequence) but I would have appreciated an explanation as to why the new Morpheus and Smith were combined into this new character? Or, as you said, why he was suddenly treated as the original? We get this long-winded and cocky explanation about why the Analyst/N.P. Harris is running the show but then zip on anything else.
