She was silent for a moment before sighing. At this point, she figured it'd be better to just go all in.

"My name is Madison Kiczys." She told him honestly.

"And... whether I stay here or not - I don't know the laws of the land - can... I at least know your name?" She asked, her voice curious. She was also speaking far better than someone who looked to be under the age of ten would be expected to speak.

The man sighed as well.

"Name's Alexandre LeBlanc." he introduced himself.

"People call me Alex. Or just Lex." he added.

"As for whether you stay here or not... well... you obviously cannot go back to where you came from. I get the feeling that that would be a VERY bad idea." he commented.

"But I might know someone that can... make it so that you're legally living here, as my ward." he continued.

"For now, though, I think it's all right for you to stay here so you're not out in the streets."

Madison nodded.

". .. thank you." She said quietly. Obviously relieved.

"But... what about your girlfriend?" She asked, having noticed the feminine touches around the place.

"Will... will she be all right with it?"

Alex was silent for a moment, before laughing.

"Girlfriend?" he asked.

"No, no, no." he said.

"Sister." he told her.

"My sister and I live here together." he continued.

"I don't have a girlfriend." he went on.

"But yeah, she should have no problems with it." he then said.

"She likes to help people, too."

Madison was silent for a moment before nodding.

"All right." She said, her voice quiet.

"Sorry about this..." She added after a moment or two. He could tell that she was sincere with that, as well. She kenw that it wasn't something tha tmost people would be interested in, after all.

She was just a random girl who had turned up on his doorstep. That's it, nothing else.

She hadn't asked for anything more than just a chance to use the restroom, and he was going above and beyond - in more ways than one, it seemed.

she ... didn't really know what to make of that, if she were to be perfectly honest.

Alex just smiled.

"Don't apologise." he said. "There's nothing to apologise for." he told her.

"I know this world is filled with people that hurt others, or people that don't care about others, or wouldn't lift a finger or bat an eye towards people in need, but you've been lucky." he continued.

"You've stumbled upon someone that genuinely cares, and is willing to do whatever it takes to help you." he added with a smile.

"...." he was then silent as he noticed the choker around her neck. Something about it seemed... not right to him. It didn't sit well with him for some reason, though he couldn't put his finger on it.

"By the way, interesting piece of fashion, there." he commented, gesturing to it.

"You like chokers or something?" he asked.

Madison shook her head when he asked about the choker.

". . . I don't." She answered.

"Mom put it on me." She said. "I can't take it off."

Alex's jaw almost dropped when he heard that.

"I... what?" he asked.

'All right, I don't know what that thing does, but it has to GO.' he thought.

"Right then." he said.

"I...yeah, I don't like that." he told her. "Just the thought that you're being forced to wear that is awful." he went on.

"Do you want it off?" he asked her.

"And if so, will you let me try and help you take it off?" he asked further.

Madison nodded.

"I ... It feels like it's choking me, but not actually choking... if that makes sense?" She told him honestly. Shew asn't sure how to say that it felt like it was choking her mana, without sounding like she was potentially insane as her parents had always claimed she was. She knew that was why she was forced to wear it in the first place, as well.

"I would love it being off." She added as she scooped up her hair as she got to her feet. Once on her feet and with all her hair collected, she turned her back to Alex, letting him see the simple clasp that seemed to flicker in and out of existence.

"...." Alex was silent as he saw this.

"Right." he said.

He then got closer and grabbed the clasp in his fingers.

'...here goes...' he thought, before putting his mana into it to try and break it.

And he did. Easily. VERY easily, in fact. The whole thing just crumbled and dissipated as soon as he put his mana into it.

He would have marvelled at how easy that was... but Madison's presence was now even MORE overwhelming, and it startled him.

'...oh.... oh wow...' he thought.

It was almost instant.

As soon as the choker was gone, Madison's mana presence was far more apparent, but also she seemed ot have some more confidence.

"Thank you." She said, speaking in perfect French now.

"I think I'll be all right now that that's gone, though." She added, her wording making it apparent that she was going to hang around if she wasn't wanted.

"What did I say?" he asked.

"I said you were welcome to stay here." he told her.

"I said I would try to make it that you could stay here long-term." he went on.

"You may be feeling a lot better, but you're still out a place to stay." he continued.

"I am NOT sending you back into the streets."

"...I won't reject the kindness." She added before chuckling lightly.

"Plus, It'll be nice to be somewhere I won't be considered a freak or anything." She then said with a shrug. "Although... i did always think I was alone."

"You've the same... imprint...? as I do." She then said with a light sigh.

"I can see it whenever I look at myself in the mirror." She muttered before shrugging. "But at least now I know I'm legitimately not insane. I'm not the only person who talks to the dead."

"It's a common thing for those like us to do." he told her.

"My sister's actually one as well." he then said.

"She'll be thrilled to know another necromancer."

". . . It's gunna be weird." She commented, looking to the small remnants of what she'd been given to eat, as she'd devoured all but a few bites by this point.

"What will be?" Alex asked after a moment, almost hesitant to know the answer.

". . . or will you be locking me in my room at night?" Madison asked as a response.

Alex was taken aback by the question.

"Excuse me!?" he exclaimed.

He then paused for a moment, and took a small breath, holding it for a moment and exhaling it slowly.

"No." he said.

"Why would I ever lock you in your room at night?" he asked.

"That... that doesn't seem like something to do..." he went on.

'...what kind of hell did this girl grow up in...?' he then asked himself mentally.

"... And of course, thank you." She added, sincerity in her voice before she finished up the last remnants of what she'd been given.

". . . I... hmm... it all right if I go have a bath?" She asked, her voice curious, hesitant. Her hair was absolutely horribly needing a wash, and she knew that. While she didn't care so much, she just wanted to feel free of the filth that she'd been growing up with (even if it wasn't a physical style), and she figured that maybe it'd help her to just wash up.

"....ah, yeah, sure." Alex replied.

"Go ahead." he told her.

He then thought for a moment, seemingly concentrating on something.

"Hmmmmm." he mumbled.

"Do me a favour?" he asked.

"Toss those clothes just outside the bathroom when you take a bath." he told her.

"They need to be washed as well." he reasoned, though he did want to get the sizes, so he could grab some more for her.

"Oh, and the small closet door by the bathroom is the bathroom closet. Grab one of the robes in there as well. They'll swim on you, but they'll be warm and cosy." he added.
