"That's ... particularly good to know." She addwed with a light sigh.

"thank you." She added before pausing.

"Also, yeah. I did notice." She commented. "Hard not to, once I could properly see it."

He was then silent, before floating over towards her, and sitting down on the bed.

"Madison." he said.

"I'm happy for you." he told her.

"Ever since you first started talking to me, I've wanted you to have better than you had." he went on.

"...guess it's finally happened now."

Madison just chuckled lightly.

"That's... yeah. Seems so." She agreed with a nod and a light smile.

".... Will you still come 'round like you used to...?" She asked after a moment or two.

"Because... I... really don't want to lose my best friend..."

"I will visit you as long as you want me to." Gregory replied.

"You're one of the best people to talk to." he told her with a chuckle... and at that point, she could tell that he was now corporeal, even if for very briefly.

"You make my afterlife that much more bearable." he continued.

"You help me keep my sanity." he went on.

"So of course I'll keep checking up on you." he concluded.

"As long as you're fine with it." he said further, before pausing and exhaling slowly.

"Heh... also, I'm your best friend, huh?" he asked.

"Not many people can say Death is their best friend, and literally mean it."

Madison just laughed lightly.

"I mean it though." She said.

"Gregory, you've been with me the longest, you were the first soul to care," she continued before smiling.

"You're my best friend, and that won't change." As she spoke, she stepped up to him, not seeming to care that this could be dangerous to her, before just giving him a hug.

Gregory was... a little shocked by what she did, before he wrapped an arm around her in response.

He was silent as he did so, a small smile visible under the shadow of his hood.

"...." he didn't say anything, but lightly chuckled under his breath, as he continued to hold her close to him.

"Madison." he then said.

"You're a special girl." he told her.

"And now you're with people that know just how special your talents are." he went on.

"Just remember that you can trust them. In times where your past is haunting you, and you're unsure about them, remember that." he said further.

"Remember that I said that they're a-ok."

Madison nodded, but didn't step back after another minute or so. When she did, she met his gaze with a soft smile.

"I know... thank you, Gregory." She said simply, honestly. There was a sincerity to her voice that he hadn't heard from anyone since before his death.

"I... should probably make my way downstairs..." Was the next thing she said another minute later.

". . . let them know I'm ok with being here."

Gregory nodded in response.

"All right." he said, standing up.

As he did so, Madison could tell that his form had turned incorporeal again, and he was a spirit once more.

"I'll see you later, Madison." he told her.

"Remember, I'm just a name call away." he finished.

He then faded slowly from view, waving as he did so, until she was alone in the room once more.

"I know you are, Gregory." Madison said with a small smile.

". . . when I can access my mana that is!" She added with a laugh before sighing and heading to the door. She paused a moment, but only a moment, before opening the door and stepping into the hall.

As she made her way downstairs, she found Aimee in the kitchen, seeming to be planning dinner, and Alex was nowhere to be seen for the moment.

"Uh... hi." Madison said. Aimee paused before turning to face her.

"Oh! Hello!" Aimee responded with a smile.

"I presume you're Madison?" She asked. The child just nodded.

"I'm Aimee - the lazy boys sister." She introduced, Madison just nodded.

"You look like him."

The two of them chatted for a minute or so, before Alex showed up.

"Oh, hey." he greeted them.

"Smells good here, Aimee." he told his sister.

"By the way, I called Hollie." he then said.

"She's expecting me at the Council tomorrow morning." he went on.

"So I'll be going there in order to get the ball rolling." he continued.

He then looked at Madison, and smiled.

"So how are you feeling?" he asked her.

"All right then. I can get you up when I get up." She said. Madison paused.

"What about me?" She asked.

"Am I staying here? Am I going elsewhere? Going with? Or what?" Madison asked after another second or two, her voice curious, almost concerned.

"Don't worry." Alex told her.

"Aimee doesn't need to head to her job until the afternoon, so she'll be here with you." he said.

"I should be back long before she needs to head out, so you won't be here alone." he assured her. "And you won't need to go elsewhere." he went on.

"I'm going to speak with a woman that can make it so that you can stay here permanently, with me as your guardian." he then clarified.

"She might come here to meet you, but you won't have to go there if you don't want to." he continued.

"I promise."

"I ... was left alone often..." Aimee paused when she heard that.

"Yeah, she's told me more, too." he said to Aimee.

He then shook his head slightly, and looked over towards Madison.

"So. What did Gregory want?" he asked her.

"I could feel his presence behind me earlier, before I left you to get changed." he added.

"Sorry, I ... completely forgot that you asked." She added before pausing and smiling softly.

"Gregory is my best friend." She then said simply.

"He's the only reason I'm still alive." She added after another couple of seconds. Aimee paused.

"Really? A reaper befriended a child...?" The brunette asked, her voice curious.

Alex was silent for a moment, stroking his chin.

"Hm." he mumbled.

"Stranger things HAVE happened in this world, Aimee." he told his sister.

"And Gregory IS a good sort." he went on.

"Well... for a reaper, anyway." he clarified.

"And he's the only reason you're still alive?" he then asked Madison.

"See... I am horrified by the implications of that, but I'll merely ask what you mean, while at the same time, admiring the irony of the statement."

Aimee just chuckled.

"That's very true." She agreed. Madison, meanwhile, just sighed.

"I would have comitted suicide years ago, had I not had someone to talk to, had I not had a single friend." the child explained.

"Mom never let me befriend anyone at school." She then said. "I wasn't allowed friends, I wasn't allowed to be social. I just... Not sure I would make friends anyway, though."

Alex's jaw almost dropped. Just how casually Madison spoke of suicide, and no friends, and loneliness just... almost depressed him.

"I... ah..." he stammered.

"Right then." he said.

"I... I see." he stuttered further.

"Well... I mean, thank heavens he was there, then." he managed to get out. "It would have been horrible if you would have... succumbed to those feelings." he admitted.

"But... maybe we can try and change that in the future." he suggested.

"At least give you SOME semblance of a social life."

"I'm... actually impartial to that." She stated.

"You ... speak a lot better than one would expect for a child." Aimee commented.

"Probably because you talk to Gregory." She added with a light chuckle.

[b]"I'm very well versed in the English language due to it." She added with a nod.

".... along with any other language I'd like." She added with a grin. Aimee just smirked.

"You do reallise that if you're staying with us, you'll be having proper language studies, right?" The older necromancer asked. Madison just froze.

"I... what?" The child asked

Alex was silent for a moment, before he acquired a matching smirk.

"Yep." he replied.

"Whether you attend a regular school, or are home-schooled, you will be taught the French language." he told her.

"As Aimee said, properly." he continued.

"We are all necromancers, meaning we pick up the language of whomever we summon, but as you demonstrated when you showed up at our door, once we no longer have access to our mana, all those languages we've acquired... go away." he went on.

"By learning French the proper way, you will ALWAYS be able to communicate while here. And your English will be kept fluent as well, as being bilingual is very handy." he reasoned.

"After all, we want you to have the proper tools to succeed in the future, without relying 100% on mana."
