"....damn it." Azari growled, as Evan stood where he was. However, there was a sadness in his eyes, before he managed to turn around as she fell.

"Sammy!" he exclaimed, as a few tears shed from his eyes.

"...looks like your will was pretty strong there." Azari commented, getting to his feet again, as Evan knelt down by his sister.

"Come, kitty." the elf commanded, walking towards the door. Evan resisted for a moment, but the control over his own body and mind were stronger than on his sister, and he complied, though he was shaking as he did so.

The two of them then left, making their way to where the rune was.

"Now listen to Madam!" Azari ordered Evan, still feeling the burn from earlier.

The elf in question looked between the two.

"........ how the hell did she burn you that badly?" She asked Azari, her voice almost pointed.

"Seeing as I'm reasonably certain a lock was put on her to prevent that degree." She added.

"After you answer, go get yourself tended to."

"I don't know." Azari responded.

He then described to her what had happened, sparing no details, as he was sure she wanted a full explanation.

"She somehow managed that level of output." he said.

"I mean, I don't think any permanent or lasting damage was done, but it still hurts." he went on.

"...then again, those like me are quite sensitive to fire." he admitted at the end.

"... Go have the medics look at you, then please, feel free to dole out whatever punishment you see fit." She told him honestly.

"Just don't kill her. I do not want to risk losing her when I don't know what the degree of phoenix she has. If she doesn't revive, I'd rather not lose a bargaining chip." She added after a moment or two.

"Now, go take care of those burns."

Azari nodded in response.

"Thank you, Madam." he replied, before leaving.

As he did, Chris watched the encounter, looking away slightly afterwards.

'...she's never shown concern for me.' he thought. 'Never told me to go to the medics specifically to take care of an injury...' he continued.

"...." he was then silent, before one of the cronies got his attention.

"Is this acceptable?" they asked.

Chris looked at the set-up they'd done, and nodded.

"...yes." he replied bluntly.

"Now then... while he's off doing that, I have some business to take care of here." She muttered before pushing herself away from the wall and approaching where her neice was. As she neared, she could feel the boost of mana to the rune, the room. It was intoxicating, if she were to be honest.

She was also wanting to check in on the rune, make sure it was going well.

The last thing she wanted was a fuck up here.

Chris was silent as he saw this, before looking away again.

'...why?' he asked himself.

'Why does she treat that damned wood elf like that? Why not me...?' he wondered, starting to grow a little frustrated.

Azari, having been tended to by the medics, made his way back to where Sammy was, throwing open the door.

"Hey!" he yelled.

"You awake!?" he asked harshly.

If she wasn't, he had something to force it. He was ready.

When Azari returned to where he left Sammy on the floor, he found that she hadn't moved, at all.

"Of course not." he growled before approaching her. As he did so, he caused a bloom to form in his hand before grabbing her hair, pulling her head up, and forcing her to inhale the pollen from the flower. It didn't take long, as he expected, before she was coughing. It wasn't a nice flower to sniff, after all.

She was silent though, as he let go of her hair. She didn't give him the pleasure of hearing anything form her. She did, however, get to her feet, even if her movements were a bit unsteady from what had happened before.

"Well, then." Azari said.

"It seems like your actions have granted me the opportunity for payback." he told her.

"Didn't much appreciate your little stunt earlier." he went on. "Granted, it ended up nothing more than a mere temporary pain, and you only left a couple of minor burns, but still." he continued.

"Looks like you have yet to learn your place." he growled.

"They ALL break here. They always break. And you will be no different." he told her, as she saw his hands become coated with thorny vines.

"I will show you just how much pain you can endure, before you wish for death."

Sammy was silent before just throwing an orb of fire at him.

"Oh fuck off." She stated simply, venom in her voice.

"I am not interested in your bullshit."

This time, Azari had been able to dodge the orb of fire.

"I know you're not." he said. "But your interests are of little consequence now." he told her.

"By the time this is done, you're going to know how hopeless your situation is." he promised.

Then, before she could really respond, he swung his fist in an arc in front of him, and several of the thorns came off of the vines, flying towards her.

If they connected, she would feel an intense stinging sensation from the poison they were coated in. It wasn't anything too serious, hardly life-threatening, but this was just his warm-up.

Sammy dodged the thorns, burning some, just dodging others.

"Really? You're an elf. Aren't you all supposed to be pacifists or some shit?" She asked as she started to consciously increase the temperature around her, and in the room.

"Or has that bitch gotten so deeply into your brain that you have no wherewithall about who or what you are anymore?" She asked. She didn't outright attack him though, wasn't that stupid. Overall, she didn't dare to, as she knew the trouble would be extreme.

Defensive measures would likely be better here, she was sure.

Azari just laughed.

"Pacifists!? Oh, PLEASE!" he replied.

"Don't paint all of us with that brush." he told her. "We're not all like that." he said.

"Also... don't speak of Madam like that." he then growled.

"She and I are of like mind." he told her.

"And I will not hear anything out of you about that." he finished, launching a larger barrage of thorns at her.

Sammy just growled as the thorns were thrown at her. She attempted to destroy them, but sadly only managed to destory most.

As a few hit her, she felt the burn from them, but didn't let out a cry. She couldn't. She refused to give him the satisfaction of that variety. She retaliated with increasing the temperature more, knowing that he had to have had a limit to how high he could tolerate, and cuasing a ring of fireballs to surround her, ready to strike.

Azari noticed that the temperature was rising, before narrowing his eyes.

He then snapped his fingers, causing small blood-red rafflesia-like flowers to blossom out of the cracks of the floor. As soon as they did, they reacted to the heat, and caused sickly yellow pollen to puff out around Sammy.

They weren't particularly deadly, in fact, there had been no reports of deaths from them at all, but they smelled bad.

Really bad.

In fact, their pollen was likened to the smell of a bloated corpse that had recently burst. It was said to cause anyone to become violently sick from the very smell of it.

Sure enough, Sammy retched.... Not thst it really did anything, and not like there was anything to come up.

She dropped to her hands and knees, shaking from the force. She wasn't down and out yet though, as a Ari learned when she slammed a hand to the floor, causing fire to shoot out from her and across the ground, much like it would if there were an accelerant.

And it was heading straight for him.

Azari looked at the flames that were coming his way, and caused some vines to come up in front of him, to act like wall. It worked, to a degree, but some of the fire actually burned through, and reached his feet, causing him to feel searing pain in them.

He cried out in pain as he felt it, before causing a purple sunflower-like blossom to come up from behind Sammy.

This one started to let strange translucent purple fluid drip down from it, and when it started to pool, it would give off a mist that would act as a hallucinogen... and make Sammy witness her worst nightmares as though they were happening before her eyes.

It was colloquially called the 'Nightterror'... for very good reason.

Sure enough, he could see when the mist started to collect, and when it started to settle in with Sammy.

Just as she let out a cry of ... something, the entire bunker shook. violently. It didn't last long before everything settled again, but the mana that was felt coursing through and detaching everyones souls for a fraction of a second was enough to get Azari's attention.

Sammy's too.

It seemed to be enough to snap her back to the present for the moment, and set fire to the flower and the fluid, before getting to her feet. She looked to Azari before just bolting for the door, ready to do whatever it was that she needed to, in order to get him out of the way if he opted to try and stop her.

All the flowers had either burned or dissipated, and Sammy was just at the door, when she felt Azari push her.

Not back, just to the side.

"Out of my way, brat!" he yelled.

"MADAM!" he then called out, as he started to run in the direction that the pulse had come from... where the rune was.

It seemed that Azari was more interested in seeing if Vanessa was all right than dealing with Sammy... or even stopping her. The question now remained for the Fyrane.

Did she try and use this moment to escape? Or check on her brother?

There was no question.

Sammy had to check on her brother. She had no choice in the matter. Family was more important to her than her own freedom, after all.

She followed Azari, not bothering to cry out as she realised that there was something serious going on, and that making it known she was following him might not be the best idea.

The room they reached was in shambles. They were greeted by some dead, some melted, something frozen, others looking to be sculpted... it didn't look good, at all. A few were alive, but not many.

And her brother was one who had fallen. Sammy was quick to get over to him, tears falling, pain in her everything. She hadn't noticed her cousin in the middle of the rune yet with the sword.

"Evan!" She exclaimed as she held him close, wishing he was alive. Sure enough, she was wrong, he wasn't. But the heat in ehr hands seeping in his back was making a difference.
