Recipe of the Time:

Cider's been around for millenia, and today, I'll share an 18th century inspired recipe. I always thought of apples as a fall fruit, but it turns out they're usually bearing fruit at start of summer & start of fall.

Anywho, what you'll need is a 2qt stock pot, 5 apples of choice, 1 to 1.5qt water, 2~4 cups of sugar, and a quarter cup of yeast.

For other flavorings consider spices like ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, star anise, citrus fruits, lavender flowers or leaves, and more.

First add the water, and sugar to your pot on high heat. While it begins to boil, chop your fruit in quarters or halves, skins & peels left on. Once it's bubbling, add the fruit & spices. Stir occassionaly, and shove it in an oven at 200f~275f if you prefer.

Once it's a loose syrup, with soft & browned fruit: let it cool to body temp. If you can easily spray on your wrist, and it feels lukewarm: perfect! Start straining, and you can keep the fruit aside to make apple sauce.

Get 2 cups of juice, and add a tbsp of yeast. Does it bubble in 5~10 mins? If yes, dump it back into the stock pot & add the other 3 tbsps of yeast.

After it gets the foam, you can seperate it into containers. If they're not specifically made for releasing gas automatically (which is fine) then loosen the lid a little until you hear the "psssfftttttt" every 12 hours or so.

Do it too little: it will explode. Do it too much: you & your entire home will be wetter than Spongebob's house with sticky hard cider.

Welcome to the Grazing Pasture!

It's nice to meet you, whoever you are. I am Fellowsheep, and you can give me ~nearly~ any nickname you want. I'm 22 & from Texas. The hangout here can have any topic, and even if it seems bustling: Don't be shy to post at least a hello! The topic can change anytime, too.

Some topics I enjoy: Plants, gardening, history (especially medieval), writing, fantasy, DnD/pathfinder, sewing, movies, and paranormal!

@Totalanimefan: You can always bring the yard into the condo! Jkjk. I can see myself trying to do that. Also congrats on the 20k milestone~.

I should probbbabllly get a hang out thread set-up, and pop into a few others.

I totally would, if I had a Switch! I don't have one yet tho. I hope you find your group, though! Eventually I'll get one. Either this year or next year.

Edit: Looks like he's actively working on the PS4/XB1 MP update this & next month. If it cones out, and supports crossplay: Then I can join then! I've got it for PS4 ^-^

@SnakeWeaver: Ouch! That's so frustrating sounding. I hope your next plant will be just admired.

@koneko: Aw! Poor thing. Did you prune it? I had issues with mine being sparse & leggy until I started aggressive pruning. (Leaving 1 or 2 stalks behind.) I've found the herbs in my care tend to thrive better when I harvest from them regularly, even if it's just a tiny harvest.
Posted in FOMO Posted 6 years ago
I get FOMO in regards to food. I eat little meals 2~3 times a day (usually 2) or 1 big meal, and so sometimes I'm full (but still wanna eat it), or wanna save my leftovers, whereas my fiance eats 1 HUGE meal a day, and usually eats the would be leftovers.

I gotta work on making more side dishes. He doesn't like veg, and I do, so that's my intended solution.

P.s. I totally looked up the definition before finishing your post. Only to notice you explained it at the bottom

Gregory is so smoll! I'm sure that just means he'll have a bigger impact.

@koneko: Same here, and I hope the seedlings grow strong the second time around! It took me two-three tries with parsley & catnip last year. So maybe you just needed practice!

@nyreen: Congrats! It was my first time over wintering potted plants, and I gotta say: I'm amazed majority of them lasted. I think the only casualties were the stems with no leaves (looking at you basil & sage). Is it too late to throw a "you made it" celebration for the survivors?
Posted in The Plants! They're alive! Posted 6 years ago
@koneko: I haven't tried lavender, but I've been able to get sage sprigs to root! I was able to keep the stems alive during the winter, or so I thought, but I'm not seeing any leaves yet.

@mookpooks: That sounds heavenly! Me and succulents don't get along yet, since my cat tries to eat 'em, or dig in the soil in the places they'll have a chance to get enough sun.

@SirLionelNigelConrad: Aw! Is it like a spider plant, or pothos?

I am a introverted person, who has just enough drive & self discipline to survive. I'm young & lazy. I want self improvement with less work. I really need to actually ~do~ the work tho.
