I was watching a true crime show a while back, and the profiler decided that if you show any interest in death for any reason. Then you are likely a sociopath. Instead of someone who respects the great equalizer.

Well for one thing they took the family out of the process. Prepping the body behind closed doors, and making it sound like the dead body is dangerous to you. It's not.

@vitreus: The funeral industry took something that happens everyday, and will happen to all of us. And made it taboo. I highly recommend watching a Youtube channel called Ask A Mortician. She can explain some of this much better than I can.

@vitreus: Waaaaaay back before the funeral industry took things over, it was common for families to take care of their dead in the home for a few days. Prepping it for the ground and saying their last goodbyes, with like a party and shit.

In the case of Egyptians it is believed that they first saw natural mummies, and thought that they looked almost alive. Which would spawn into them perfecting it and doing it on purpose.

They do in fact grieve too.

Cultures are wild and how things change over the course of time. Fascinating.

They were basically trying to cheat death, or something like that. It made the dead seem almost alive to them. There's also a possibility that they ate parts of the mummies they took out. Including baby mummies. As way of absorbing that person's spirit. A lot of this is conjecture with very little concrete evidence.

@xvz: These mummies are long before Egypt started doing it, from a different culture. But apparently it's possible that this culture also mummified unborn babies.

I'm watching a mummy documentary, lol is where the question came from. But I'd like to see the exact moment grunt noises became words, or watch the first person to make bronze for the very first time.

If you could watch a moment in time, you cannot be seen or change the timeline, what moment would you want to witness?
