Lindsay was silent as that was said.

"................I see." he said.

"That... yes, that is completely unacceptable." he muttered.

"Would nobody adopt you?" he asked her.

"Or did they treat you THAT badly where you were?" he asked further.

"...or a little here, a little there?" he then inquired.

As he asked his questions, things were formulating in his mind. He wondered a number of things, most of them pertaining to Kalin, her knowledge of the world, and how it would affect future potential plans.

"......last year?" Lindsay asked.

"Wait..." he said.

"Have... have you been living on the streets for over a year?" he asked her.

The thought of her saying yes horrified him, and he hoped she was exaggerating.

'Please don't let it be true...' he thought.

Lindsay was silent as he heard that.

"I... have my ear to the ground, so to speak." he told her.

"I hear more than what the media portrays." he said further. "And I can believe that things aren't as nice behind the scenes." he went on.

"I've heard nothing specific on Ever Hearts, but I CAN believe what you say." he then assured her.

"But you have nowhere to go?" he then asked.

"That's... problematic." he said. "Especially with the colder weather approaching."

Lindsay paused for a moment.

"A runaway?" he asked.

"Oh dear... I see." he said.

"Where are you a runaway from?" he asked. "What sort of situation were you previously in to cause you to become a runaway?" he asked further.

"What drove to to such a decision as to run away?"

"Well, I hope it will be." Lindsay responded.

He then left the room and came back with a glass of ice water for her, as well as butter, syrup, and utensils.

"Here you go." he said, handing them to her.

"Feel free to have as much as you like." he told her.

"I don't know what you're used to, but here, you can have as much as you can stomach." he chuckled.

"Did you sleep well?" he then asked.

Lindsay raised an eyebrow when he heard she was fine with water.

'Hm...' he thought.

"Water? If you're sure." he said.

"I DO have milk and juice that you're welcome to." he told her.

"And you didn't expect to wake here?" he then asked her. "May I ask why?"

"Dining room table." Lindsay responded.

"Come on." he told her.

He then grabbed a couple of plates, and they both made their way to said table. Once she was sitting, he placed the plate of towering waffles, and the plate of bacon in the centre.

"I'll be back with syrup and utensils and such." he told her.

"What would you like to drink?" he asked.

Lindsay, who was just plating some food, stopped and looked at her.

"Oh, hello, Kalin." he greeted her.

"Good morning." he said.

"How fortuitous. I was just about to see if you were awake." he commented. "I've made breakfast, and was wondering if you would like to partake." he told her.

"I'm not a very good chef, but I DO know how to make good waffles, and fry up bacon." he commented.

"Feeling like you could eat?" he then asked her.

-Engage "Ed Edd N Eddy mode"-

Pet the chicken, pet the chicken, pet the chicken, pet the chicken...

As soon as she crept to the door, she heard noises on the other side of it. She heard sizzling, she heard some grinding, some clinking, clanging, and other such noises.

Kitchen noises.

And that's when she could smell it. Bacon and waffles. Homemade waffles.

But then she heard something else... another voice, but it sounded different. She could tell it was coming from a television, probably left on for white noise or whatever.

"-continues to enjoy his winning streak. So far he is the only fighter to remain undefeated, but some continue to criticize his decision to hide his face, and use a pseudonym. However, there seems to be no stopping this juggernaut of a man, as he consistently dominates his opponents. And in the world of baseball-" she heard the anchor say, continuing to drone on about other sports.

"Ha-ha!" she then heard Lindsay's voice laugh out loud.

"Ohhhh, one day. One day." he said further.

"Mmm, almost done. I should probably go and see if Kalin is awake." he added.

"Ah, sushi!" Lindsay responded.

"Excellent choice. I know JUST the place." he told her.

"They're open late, it's always made-to-order, and their selection is amazing." he said, as he made a turn, and started to make his way to the place in question.

It didn't take long, about 10 minutes, before they pulled into the parking lot of the place in question.

"All right then." he said, turning off the vehicle.

"Let's go in and eat."

Lindsay raised an eyebrow when he heard that.

"Yeah, no scraps." he said.

"You will NOT be eating scraps." he insisted.

"And Asian? Huh, all right." he said.

"I know a good place to get some Asian food." he told her.

"Anything in specific?" he then asked. "Asian is a broad term, after all."

"Chinese? Japanese? Korean? Something else?"

"......." Lindsay was silent as he saw how small she was.

'...I wonder if she's malnourished, or suffers stunted growth?' he thought. 'Or is it both?' he wondered further, as he started the car up, and Kalin felt the heat from the vents start to warm the area around her.

"So." he then said, as he pulled out onto the road.

"What do you want to eat?" he asked.

"Do you have a preference? Or anything you wish to avoid?" he asked further.

"Because whatever you'd like to have, we can get it." he told her with a light chuckle. "That's the beauty of so many differently themed authentic restaurants in this city." he added.

"I'm not looking for repayment." Lindsay responded.

"I'm merely doing this as an act of kindness, believe it or not." he told her. "There ARE still good people in this world. They're just... getting harder and harder to find." he sighed.

"Anyway, my car's parked close to here." he told her.

"Come on, let's go." he said, looking up at the sky.

"Looks like there's going to be some precipitation." he commented. "Probably freezing rain, if I were to hazard a guess."
